James Raymond Labaw, 90, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2023.

James was born on April 20, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pa. to Frances and Winifred Labaw.  He grew up with his sisters Margaret, Ruth, Susan, Mary, and his brother, Frank. 

He contacted Polio at the age of six causing him to develop his get up and go attitude.  James graduated from high school in Doylestown, Pa. and went on to college in Millersville to earn his degree in teaching.  Later attending University of Miami, her earned his master’s in education.  James was a proud industrial arts teacher and had a long life of wood working.  He had the ability to make anything he set his mid to.  He was able to teach in Pa. and for the department of defense schools.  James was able to travel and teach around the world including the countries of England, Germany, Spain, and the Philippines.  He then went on to meet Mary E. Fehr in 1963 and they married in 1966.  Together they raised three children in England, Jeanette, Jon, and Aaron.  They retired in 1992 to Chloe, West Virginia and later moved to North Dakota in 2022.

James was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Margaret, Ruth, Susan, Mary; his brother, Frank; and brothers-in-law, Allen and Brian. 

He is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Jeannette (Tom), Jon (Lou), and Aaron, along with his five grandchildren, Jolie and Abby Labaw, Shane, Calvin, and Ashley Weiss along with his one great-grandchild, Blakely.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

James donated his body to the UND Deeded Body Program and continues to educate students.
