Valley City, ND – Valley City Public Schools, Dietrich Busing and Valley City Cardiac Ready are partnering together to improve student safety during transportation. During the month of December, staff at Dietrich Busing completed a series of trainings for bus drivers to be able to respond, in case of an emergency.

“As our school district continues to prioritize student safety, ensuring that our transportation system was equipped became an important next step.” stated Josh Johnson, Valley City Public Schools Administrator.

Alana McClellan, cardiac coordinator and emergency room manager from CHI Mercy Hospital provided AED and CPR training to the bus drivers. CHI Mercy Health Valley City was recognized as the first Acute Cardiac Ready Hospital in North Dakota in November 2022. McClellan stated “with the number of people who are taking school transportation, this was a great way to expand the work.”

In addition to portable AEDs and CPR training, bus drivers are able to recognize the signs of an overdose as well to administer Naloxone.

If you or your organization is interested in CPR, AEDs, or Naloxone (also known as Narcan), please contact City-County Health District at 845-8518.
