UJ – The University of Jamestown softball team played its first doubleheader of the season at Trapper Field Tuesday afternoon, defeating Valley City State (N.D.) University 10-1 and 3-2 in a non-conference matchup. It was the fourth straight win for the Jimmies, now 8-4 in their last 12 games.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Jamestown trailed 1-0 as they came to bat in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Mackenzie Lefebvre‘s fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot, and a two-run single by Gentrey Turin helped the Jimmies take a 4-1 lead.
  • Lefebvre drove in another run an inning later, singling to right field to score Kayla Quintanilla to make it 5-1.
  • The Jimmies ended the game in the bottom of the sixth via run rule. A VCSU error brought in UJ’s first run, and with the bases loaded, Samarah Martinez hit a grand slam for the final four runs.
  • Abby Blair (8-5) pitched five innings and got the win, giving up one run on two hits.
  • Martinez (2-for-4, 2 runs, 4 RBI), Lefebvre (2-for-3, 3 RBI), and Blair (2-for-3) all had multi-hit games.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS

  • Samarah Martinez and Kayla Quintanilla hit back-to-back RBI doubles, and Gracie Fisher drove in the final run of the inning with a base hit as the Jimmies took a 3-1 lead after the first.
  • VCSU answered with a single run in the top of the second to get within 3-2.
  • Hope Ransome (8-3) came on in relief with two outs in the fourth and pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings to get the win.
  • Gentrey Turin also doubled for UJ, which finished with five hits.
