Jamestown – The Jamestown Community Foundation recently awarded a $2,000 grant to the Jamestown branch of the American Association of University Women for assistance in the remodeling of their new location for the local AAUW Used Bookstore. They are now moved and open at the old location of the O’Reilly’s Auto Parts Store, 810 18th St. SW in Jamestown. As always, the net proceeds generated by the Used Bookstore is donated to many of the initiatives of the local AAUW, including the scholarship endowment at the University of Jamestown, contributions to organizations such as the S.A.F.E Shelter, Arts Center and several other advocacy efforts for the benefit of women and girls. Through the many years of the bookstore’s operation, no matter where the store was located, the support of the community in donating used books to the store has been excellent and their shopping support has steadily increased as well. Related projects include handing out 500 children’s books each Halloween to Trick or Treaters plus donating overstocked books to other community organizations such as the Little Libraries, churches, day care centers and service organizations.
The Jamestown Community Foundation can be reached for information about the organization or its grant applications/guidelines by going on-line to www.jamestowncommunityfoundation.com or by contacting Barb Lang at 701-320-4570. Donations to the Foundation can be mailed to the JCF at P.O. Box 2004, Jamestown, ND 58402.
