Gary O. Sahr, 77, of Jamestown, ND, passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 3, 2024, at Sanford Health, Fargo, ND, surrounded by his family.
Gary was born February 4, 1947, at Trinity Hospital, Jamestown, ND, the son of Raymond and Winifred (Kiltie) Sahr. He grew up on a farm near Jamestown and attended a one-room schoolhouse until the 6th grade, then attended Jamestown High School. Gary enlisted with the US Navy at 17 years old and served on the Galveston during the Vietnam conflict. He was honorably discharged after four years of service. Gary was united in marriage to Sandie Stroh on March 23, 1968, in Wilmar, MN. They lived in Minneapolis, MN for a year where Gary and Sandie worked at Grayco, and then they returned to Jamestown where their home has been since. Gary worked as a carpenter’s assistant, at Wehler’s Shoe Store, Buffalo Lanes and owned Gary’s Cleaning Service before being employed at Ladish/Cargill for over 30 years. He had a passion for animals and was active with the James River Humane Society, serving as president for three terms and President of the Pet Cemetery board. Gary enjoyed painting, walking his dogs, and watching UFC fights.
Gary is survived by his wife, Sandie Sahr; children, Marnie & Sheldon Mohr, Paul & Stacy Sahr, and Christopher “C.J.” and Jennifer Sahr; grandchildren, Jorgan, Baleigh, Noah, Kaig & Kayla, Seth, and Jake; and sisters, Connie & Larry Hakanson and Dixie & Wendell Janke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond & Winifred Sahr; grandson, Benjamin Sahr; and in-laws, Jack & Margaret Stroh.
Funeral Service – 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with Pastor Jennifer McDonald officiating.
Visitation – 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, September 9, 2024 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial – Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
