Doug Mead, 82, of Jamestown, ND, passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 8, 2025 at Allina Health, St. Paul, MN.
Douglas Marvin Mead was born September 22, 1942, in Kensal, ND, the son of Kenneth and Vonnee (Noble) Mead. Doug graduated from Kensal High School and attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND. He was united in marriage to Leona Siebert on August 31, 1962, in Kensal, ND. They made their home in Jamestown where Doug worked for Eddy Furniture Co. and then for Sweetheart Bread for 32 years. He delivered gas for Bloom Oil, and then for Rosen’s until her retired.
Doug was a member of the St. James Basilica and a life member of the Knights of Columbus. He and Leona enjoyed traveling when the kids were growing up. There was at least one motorcycle trip per summer with friends. Doug had a passion for working with his hands and woodworking, including building a place at the lake.
Doug is survived by his wife, Leona Mead; son Todd Mead; son, Troy Mead; daughter, Trisha (Norman) Shirley; grandchildren, Lucas, Julia, and Benjamin Shirley; sister, Sharla (Ben) Backer; and brothers, Jason (Kristie) Mead and Carey Mead.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Wanda Williams; and an infant sister, Peggy.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 17, 2025 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown, ND, with Father Joseph Littlefield, celebrant.
Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 16 at Eddy Funeral Home.
Interment: Calvary Cemetery, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be sent to the James River Human Society, Jamestown Regional Medical Center Hospice, or a charity of choice.
