Omaha NE (UND) – The UND volleyball team fell in three sets to Omaha (25-20, 25-23, 25-14) on Thursday night from Baxter Arena. UND falls to 4-10 and 1-2 in conference play, while Omaha improves to 4-8 and 1-2 in Summit League play.
The Match saw 18 ties and nine lead changes overall, as the Hawks were led by Paige Barber who totaled a game high 12 kills. Ava Galvan logged six kills and swatted a career three blocks, along with five kills from Lauren Perugini.
Izzie McCormick led the way with 10 digs, as the Fighting Hawks had 44 digs as a team compared to 38 from Omaha. Sadie White contributed 27 of the team’s 30 assists on the evening.
Set one saw seven ties and four lead changes, as the Hawks fell behind 6-1 early, but used a 9-4 run to tie it at 10-10. UND got the next point off a Galvan kill to take an 11-10 lead, while also holding leads of 12-11 and 14-13 in the set. From there, Omaha went on a 5-0 run to take an 18-14 lead and didn’t look back, taking set one, 25-20.
The second set features 10 ties and four lead changes, as UND led by as many as three in the set. The Hawks owned a 13-10 advantage over Omaha, before the Mavericks went on a 7-1 run to gain a 17-14 advantage. The Hawks battled, going on an 9-4 run of their own, headlined with kills from Barber, Matthea Dalton, Galvan, Autumn Jordan and Perugini, along with aces from McCormick and White to give UND a 23-21 lead. Omaha responded with four points to end the set, taking set two, 25-23.
The Fighting Hawks went up 1-0 in the third set, as that was their only lead of the set. Omaha went on to take an 8-3 lead, which UND brought within 10-7. The two teams exchanged points to make it 11-8, but the Hawks surrendered a 14-6 run to end the set, dropping frame three, 25-14.
