Bismarck ND (VCSU) – The Valley City State University cross country team competed in the University of Mary Marauders Open on Friday, Oct. 10. The women’s race was run at 4:00 p.m., followed by the men’s race at 4:45 p.m. on a sunny and 65-degree day.
Viking men ran an 8K in a field of 31 against four other teams. Senior Mason Brehmer led the team in their efforts, taking seventh place running a 26:46.9. Zach Baumgartner took 15th running a 27:56.2. He was followed by Viking freshman Kole Albers, who took 20th, running a 28:33.3. Tate Minnihan finished 22nd with a 28:55.1. Senior Isaac Eichhorst took 29th running a 30:04.2.
Viking men finished fourth of four running against division two competition in the University of Mary, Northern State University, and Minot State University.
On the women’s 6K, the Vikings raced as individuals in a field of 32. The Viking squad of freshmen was led by Frida Barrera, who took an impressive fifth place among the Division Two athletes. She ran a 22:29.7. Paiton Flick finished in 23rd, running a 25:03.2. Billie Maye Pohlkamp took 31st, running a 28:12.9.
