Mayville ND (VCSU) – Valley City State extended its winning streak to three straight matches and nine straight sets after a 3-0 win over Mayville State at Lewy Lee Fieldhouse in Mayville. The Vikings won 25-14, 25-14, 25-22.

Valley City State is now 9-10 overall and 7-7 in the Frontier Conference. Mayville State falls to 5-14 overall and 3-11 in the conference.

In the opening set, things were close early with four ties in the first eight rallies. Then the Vikings took over, going on a 11-2 run to take a nine-point lead. An attack error by the Comets Cheyann Johnson made the score 15-6 VCSU. Mayville State went on a 6-3 run to cut the lead to six. A kill by Desidy Schwanke for the Comets made it 18-12. After a service error, Valley City State ended the set on an 8-2 run. Eden Carrier and Emma Lucas each had two kills in the run. A block by Lucas and Danielle Hagler ended the set with the Vikings winning 25-14.

The second set, Valley City State dominated early in the set. A kill by Rosie Anderson made the score 8-2 Vikings. After a kill by the Comets Kathryn Agnew made it 8-3, VCSU went on a 7-0 run to take a twelve-point lead. An attack error by Mayville State Danica Hanson made it 15-3 Vikings. The Comets cut the lead to nine, but then Valley City State would go on a 6-3 run to get the lead back to twelve. Emma Lucas added two more kills to her total in the run. Another attack error by Mayville State made the score 22-10 Vikings. After a three-point mini run for the Comets, Valley City State scored three of the last four points with kills by Macy FridgenRosie Anderson, and Eden Carrier to end the set with the Vikings winning 25-14.

Mayville State made things interesting in the third set. There were six ties and six lead changes in the first 15 rallies. A kill by Rosie Anderson broke a 7-7 tie and started a three-point mini run for Valley City State. An attack error by the Comets Agnew made it 10-7 Valley City State. The Comets would go on a 5-1 run to take the lead back at 12-11. After a kill by Emma Lucas tied it at 12-12, Mayville State went back in front 13-12. The Vikings would surge ahead with a 7-3 run. An attack error by Mayville State made the score 19-15 Vikings. Valley City State would get the lead to five on a couple of occasions, both came because of unforced errors by the Comets. With the Vikings up 24-19 and facing set and match point, Mayville State made one last push. A kill by Andrea Majchrzak made it 24-22. But Morgan Freije put the finishing touches on the win with a kill to make the final 25-22.

The Vikings were led by Emma Lucas with a season high twelve kills and a .455 hitting percentage. Eden Carrier had a career high six kills. Danielle Hagler and Rosie Anderson each had five kills. Hagler had a .364 hitting percentage while Anderson hit at a .273 clip. Macy Fridgen added four kills. JayCee Richter led the defense with 23 digs and Delani Clarke added eleven. At the net, Hagler and Emma Lucas had two block assists each. Madden Bogenreif had 18 assists while Gracie Schumacher had 14. Richter was solid at the service line with three aces.
