Souix Falls SD (University of Jamestown) – The University of Jamestown women’s wrestling team had its first dual competitions on Sunday afternoon, taking on Minot State University and University of Sioux Falls. The Jimmies defeated USF 25-23 after starting the day with a 28-9 loss to Minot State.

Jamestown 25, Sioux Falls 23
A string of four pins powered the University of Jamestown women’s wrestling team to a dramatic 25-23 dual victory over the University of Sioux Falls.

The Jimmies overcame an early deficit by dominating the middle weights. Kiera Hagman got the Jimmies on the board at 124 pounds, securing a pin over Hannah Schuster at the 3:48 mark. Nora Houglum followed suit at 131 pounds, earning a fall against Mackenzie Armagost in 3:40.

Ann Meiman picked up another quick pin for UJ at 145 pounds, defeating Ciana Grate in just 1:23. Leah Willard kept the momentum going at 160 pounds with a fall over Addaly Miller at the 2:13 mark. An open forfeit for Emily Novak at 180 pounds rounded out the scoring for Jamestown.

Sioux Falls built an early lead with three consecutive forfeits at 103, 110, and 117 pounds. The Cougars also secured two technical falls, with Brinley Green-Griffin (138) and Zoe Adam (207) winning their matches 10-0. Minot State 28, Jamestown 9

Leah Willard and Emily Novak provided the highlights for the Jimmies with back-to-back victories in the upper weights.

At 160 pounds, Willard made quick work of her opponent, earning a pin against Madison Parson in just 1 minute and 25 seconds. Emily Novak followed suit at 180 pounds, controlling her match from start to finish. Novak secured a 13-0 technical fall over Madilyn Schuck, ending the bout at the 2:55 mark.

Minot State built its team lead by winning the remaining bouts. The Beavers opened the dual with a forfeit victory at 103 pounds. They added two technical falls from Skye Shelmerdine (124) and Haleigh Lematta (145), and secured pins from Alyssa Jones (131), Lovey Beebe (138), and Aniya Herbin (207) to seal the team victory.
