The funeral service for Jean Ann Swanberg, 94, Valley City, North Dakota will be 10:30 am Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Stone Lutheran Cemetery, rural Mandan, North Dakota. She passed away on January 23 at Mercy Hospital, Valley City.

Jean Ann Toepke was born July 17, 1931, at Judson, North Dakota, the daughter of Frank and Borgny (Jacobson) Toepke. She attended high school at New Salem graduating in 1949.

She was united in marriage to James “Art” Swanberg on June 25, 1955. They made their home in Mandan until they moved to Valley City in 1972. Jean loved tending to her flower gardens, especially her roses.
Jean is survived by her two sons, Mark (Toni) Swanberg and Kent (Brenda) Swanberg, a daughter, Colleen Jones, all of Valley City; and a sister, Sandy Wisdom, McClusky, North Dakota. She is also survived by one granddaughter Samantha, and five grandsons, John Paul, Eric, Jacob, Beau, and Jared; and two great granddaughters, Emmalee and Katelyn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Art, who passed away on August 21, 2025, an infant son, Terry, two sisters and one brother.
