North Liberty IA (UJ) – The University of Jamestown women’s wrestling team put together a strong showing at the inaugural USA Wrestling Women’s Collegiate Club Nationals on Thursday, capturing a fourth place overall finish with 76 team points. The Jimmies were led by a spectacular, dominant performance from Emily Novak, who took home the first place crown in the 180 pound weight class.

Here is a breakdown of how the Jimmies performed on the mat:

  • Emily Novak (180 lbs) – 1st Place: Novak was absolutely unstoppable, pinning her way through the entire bracket. She dispatched Taylor Gould (0:38) in the quarterfinals, Raycye Fipps (1:27) in the semis, and claimed the championship by pinning Caitlyn Davis in just 1:01.
     
  • Nora Houglum (131 lbs) – 2nd Place: Houglum had an outstanding tournament, utilizing her technical prowess to secure second place. She opened with a pair of dominant technical falls over Annie Ye (10-0, 1:23) and Arianna Dominguez (11-0, 1:34). After dropping a tough match to eventual champion Hannah Henderson (12-1), Houglum bounced back in Round 5 to defeat teammate Abby Ewing via a 10-0 technical fall (1:17) to lock up the runner-up spot.
     
  • Celia Jaeger (180 lbs) – 3rd Place: Jaeger completed a fantastic showing for UJ at 180. After dropping her semifinal match, she bounced back with a 10-0 tech fall over Mali Richardson and then pinned Eliana Eats (1:40) to claim third place.
     
  • Abby Ewing (131 lbs) – 3rd Place: Ewing showed off her pinning ability on her way to a third-place finish. After an opening-round loss to Hannah Henderson, Ewing rallied with two lightning-fast pins, taking down Arianna Dominguez in just 52 seconds and Annie Ye in 53 seconds. She closed out her tournament against teammate Nora Houglum to secure third.
     
  • Ann Marie Meiman (145 lbs) – 4th Place: Meiman started strong with a 7-5 decision in the quarters. After a tough semifinal loss, she secured a pin against Madelyn McLaughlin (3:25) to reach the third place match, ultimately falling in a tight 7-5 decision to finish fourth.
     
  • Leah Willard (160 lbs) – 4th Place: Willard showed incredible resilience after dropping her opening match. She rattled off three consecutive pins in the consolation bracket (0:42, 0:29, and 1:37) to fight her way back to the third place match, finishing fourth overall.
  • Kiera Hagman (124 lbs) – 6th Place: Hagman picked up a solid fall victory (2:03) over Faith Hand in the consolation sub-semis before wrapping up her day in the fifth place match.
