Yvonne Szarkowski, 92, of Jamestown, ND, passed away quietly in her sleep on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at SMP Health-Ave Maria, Jamestown, ND.
Yvonne Szarkowski was born on March 26, 1933, in Jamestown, North Dakota, to Paul and Mabel (Fox) Albrecht. She graduated from St. John’s Academy in 1951 and proudly worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell until her marriage. On November 5, 1953, she married James “Jim” Szarkowski. Together, they farmed grain and raised cattle and three hellions in Rose Township until their retirement.
Yvonne enjoyed sending handwritten cards and notes, keeping track of birthdays, and regularly calling friends and family just to stay in touch. She loved gardening and canning, baking bread, and always having cookies in the freezer to share. She sewed quilts from scrap fabric and made pajamas for her granddaughters. Her Catholic faith was an important part of her life, and she found comfort in prayer, especially saying the rosary.
Yvonne is survived by two sons, Keven (Beth) Szarkowski and Doug (Sandy) Szarkowski; her granddaughters, Jessica (Jake Boeshans) Szarkowski, Abigail Szarkowski, Rebecca (Trevor) Haag, and Christina Szarkowski; and her great-grandchildren, Gabriel Jordan, Bria Boeshans, and Bailey Boeshans. She is also survived by her brother, Dennis Albrecht, and two sisters, Diane Albrecht and Mary Albrecht.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; her son, Steve; and two sisters, Margaret Zimmermann and Ann Kern.
The family will have a private celebration of Yvonne’s life at a later date.
In lieu of memorials, the family asks that you honor Yvonne’s memory by extending an act of kindness to someone in need.
