Litchfield Park AZ – Senior Rylin Petry sits inside the top 10 to guide the North Dakota State men’s golf team on the opening day of the Bell Bank “Pay It Forward” Collegiate at Wigwam Golf Club on Monday.
Petry (68-73—141) fired a season-low round to open the tournament. The senior recorded a team-high seven birdies in the opening round to finish -4. Petry added three more birdies in the second round to finish +1 and is currently positioned in a tie for eighth at -3 heading into the final round.
Jake Skarperud (75-71—146) is the second highest Bison golfer after the first day. Skarperud carded a birdie on the 18th hole in the first round to finish +3. In round two, the senior fired four consecutive birdies in the back nine soar 29 places up the leaderboard, finishing -1 on the round and in a tie for 36th at +2.
Andrew Ballou (77-74—151) recorded two scoring rounds on the day. Ballou picked up a birdie in each round and even through a team-high 14 holes in the second round to finish with scores of +5 and +2. The freshman is tied for 68th at +7 heading into the final round.
Gabe Benson (73-80—153) and Max Wilson (71-82—153) wrap up the NDSU golfers for the event, tied for 81st at +9 overall. Benson logged a round of +1 to open the tournament and finished +8 in the second round. Wilson picked up his third round below par for the season after ending -1 in the first round and finished +10 in round two.
As a team, the Bison (287-298—585) are in 13th place at +9 after day one, finishing with rounds of -1 and +8.
The Bell Bank “Pay It Forward” Collegiate will conclude on Tuesday.
