Sharon Vanorny of Valley City, ND (formerly of Oakes, ND) passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at her home under the care of HIA Hospice, surrounded by her loving family.

Sharon was born on September 7, 1953, to Joseph and Clara Jean (Farley) Hauck in Aberdeen SD.  She attended St. Mary’s Parochial Grade School and Roncalli High School, both in Aberdeen.  She graduated from Presentation College with degrees in Medical Lab Technologist and Nursing.  She was employed in several locations over the years, including the Oakes, Lisbon and Valley City Hospitals, working in the Emergency Room, Operating Room and Labor and Delivery.  She also worked for the Dickey County Public Health District for several years.

She married Thomas Vanorny on May 27, 1977, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aberdeen.  They moved to Oakes, ND in 1978 and Valley City in 2018.  She was very involved in church and community activities.  She taught Lamaze birthing classes, bible studies, Natural Family Planning with her husband and religious education.  She was also a member and held leadership roles in Girl Scouts, St. Charles Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, Right to Life, and OCIA. She was a member of the Aberdeen Belles and Beaus Square Dance Club and the Guelph Whirlaways Square Dance Club.

Family was the most important thing to Sharon, and her life revolved around her kids and grandkids. She and Tom spent countless hours traveling to activities, showing up for nearly every sporting event, recital, concert, or school activity.  The grandkids always looked forward to going to “Grandma Camp” each summer where they got to camp and go to museums, waterparks and fairs.  Sharon also had a great love of quilting, sewing, and crafts; and over the years, the kids and grandkids received numerous homemade gifts from Grandma Sharon.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Thomas: children, Daniel (Mary) Vanorny, Hannah Vanorny, Maria (Robert) Hasey, Jillian (Ryan) Lagasse, and Sam (Casey) Vanorny; grandchildren, Ben & Claire Vanorny, Brennan Hasey, and Regan, Lauren and Indie Lagasse; and sisters, Lora (Neil) Schaunaman and Christie (Jeff) Kiesz.

She was preceded in death by her parent; son, David Vanorny; and grandchildren, Noah, Faith and Adam Vanorny.
