Laurine Ruth (Lackman) Olson, 92, was born February 27, 1934, in Gering, Nebraska to Alexander and Marie Lackman. When she was 5 years old, they moved to Rothsay, MN, where she graduated from high school in 1952. She then attended Ellendale Teacher’s College and went on to teach at Benson Corner Country School, Gackle, and Litchville Schools.
Laurine was united in marriage to Eugene Olson December 26, 1956. They lived and farmed near Litchville, ND until retirement. They moved to Fargo in 2018.
Laurine was a loving mom, an excellent cook and baker, and spent many hours outdoors: farming with Gene, gardening, raising chickens and later pheasants. She was an active volunteer at the Litchville Historical Society and the Litchville Community Center.
Laurine made a choice to serve God at a young age and held true to that choice throughout her life.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Eugene; daughter, Diane (Kim) Swenson of Lakota; son, Brian (Fiancée Jen Vetter) of Jamestown; daughter-in-law, Rita Olson of Wahpeton; granddaughters, Kelsey (Alex) Myers, Kirsten (Trent Freier) Swenson, Kendra (David) Driza; great grandchildren, Nissa and Korbin Myers, Amara Davis, Savannah and Waylon Driza; brother, Ruben (Lois) Lackman; sister, Leah Jaeger; sister-in-law, Patricia Lackman; brothers-in-law, Robert McDonald, Richard Olson, Dennis (Lorna) Olson and many extended family.
Laurine was preceded in death by their son, Larry Olson; her parents; parents-in-law, Alfred and Mary Olson; brothers, Manuel (Mary) Lackman, Bruce Lackman, Paul (Barbara) Lackman; sisters, Rebecca Olson, Bette McDonald; in-laws, Eileen (Vernon) Vigesaa, Leslie (Marcella) Olson, Clarence Jaeger.
The funeral service for Laurine will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 11 in the Litchville Community Center. Visitation will begin at 9:00 on Thursday morning and continue until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Litchville Cemetery. Traditions Funeral Services in Valley City, ND is assisting the Olson family with arrangements.
