Edmund Ronald “Ron” LaRoque, 80, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND. Ron was born on October 5, 1945, in Poplar, MT, to Edmund LaRoque and Melda Martelle. He was a proud member of the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes and carried deep connections to his family and roots throughout his life.
In the 1970s, he married the love of his life, Carol Anne LaRoque, and together they raised twelve children while building a home and life across several communities in North Dakota before eventually settling on their family farm in Fingal, ND.
Throughout his life, Ron worked many jobs and wore many hats. From trucking and factory work to the career he loved most, he finished his working years at John Deere in Valley City, ND, where he eventually retired.
Those who knew Ron knew that hard work wasn’t just something he did — it was who he was. He was truly one of the last of a dying breed: an old-school hardworking man who believed in showing up, working hard, and taking care of family.
Ron enjoyed fishing, spending time with family, socializing with friends at local bars, watching westerns, listening to old country music, and staying busy with work and projects. He especially loved spending time with his siblings and valued the bonds he shared with them throughout his life. He valued conversation, laughter, family gatherings, and the people around him.
Ron was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol Anne LaRoque; his daughter, Eronna LaRoque; and his son, Sylvester LaRoque.
He is survived by his children: Tyler LaRoque, Jovite LaRoque, Leandrew LaRoque, and Tylando LaRoque, along with many other children, grandchildren, extended family members, siblings, and friends whose lives he touched throughout the years. Ron’s legacy lives on through the family he built, the work ethic he passed down, and the memories shared by those who knew and loved him.
A graveside service will be held in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, Fingal, at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 12. Traditions Funeral Services in Valley City is assisting Ron’s family with arrangements. An online guestbook and tribute page can be found at www.lerudmathias.com
