Susan Marie Giese, 77, of Jamestown, ND, died suddenly at Sanford Medical Center, Sunday afternoon, June 7, 2026.
Susan “Shirley” Giese was born on July 10,1948 to Cecile and Orville Shirley in Valley City. She was one of 13 children. She spent her childhood between Robinson, Valley City and graduated high school in 1967 from Jamestown.
In 1968 Susan married Don Lawrence in Jamestown where they farmed. Susan’s passion was raising Mark, Missy and Jared while balancing the books, working outside in the barns, cooking and baking.
In 2000, Susan reconnected with Lance Giese, a boy she had gone to school with in Robinson. Lance had given her her first kiss — on the cheek — back in first grade. She later moved to Valley City and hadn’t seen him since. They were married in 2001, and he showed her true love for nearly 25 years.
In the years since, Susan has found joy in her children, grandchildren, baking, puzzles, diamond art, music and traveling to Alaska. She loved a hot cup of coffee and a sweet treat. She also loved a long conversation with lots of laughs, playing cards and tiles. She always chose joy and had a twinkle in her eye.
Susan is survived by her husband, Lance. Her son, Mark, daughter Missy (Jason)and son Jared (Jennifer) and grandchildren Breanna (Scott), Trenton (Nessa), Jacob (Gabby), Jenna, Zane, Inara and Everly along with two great-grandchildren, Bayzley and Riker. She also has many wonderful siblings and their spouses, and nieces and nephews that were very precious to her.
She was preceded in death by her sweet boy, Michael in 1973. The ache of his loss is now gone as they are reunited in heaven.
