Carol Splonskowski, 79, of Jamestown, ND, died Saturday, August 8, 2026, at SMP Health – St. Raphael in Valley City, ND.

Carol was born April 8, 1947, in Devils Lake, ND, to Darrell and Rose (Riedl) Maxson. She grew up in the Devils Lake area and graduated from Devils Lake High School in 1965. She went on to attend the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy.

Carol and John Splonskowski were married on August 28, 1971, in Devils Lake. They made their home in Bismarck before moving to Jamestown in 1973. Carol worked for Social Services and also operated an in-home daycare, caring for many children throughout the community. In 1986, she began her career with the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier. She retired after more than 20 years of service.

Following her retirement, Carol continued giving back to her community by volunteering at Jamestown Hospital in both the Surgery Center and Gift Shop.

Carol had a special love for cooking and baking. She was especially known for the beautiful birthday and wedding cakes she made for numerous families throughout the area. Above all, she cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. She also enjoyed playing bingo and sharing laughter and good times with those around her.

Carol is survived by her three children, Kyle (Tressa) Splonskowski, Jamestown, ND; Darren (Melanie) Splonskowski, Omaha, NE; and Lesley (Nathan) Cuvala, Boise, ID; eight grandchildren; and two brothers, Raymond Maxson and Robert Maxson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents, Darrell and Rose Maxson; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Maxson.

Carol will be remembered for her caring nature, generosity, and the many ways she touched the lives of her family, friends, and community.


Mass of Christian Burial- 10:00 AM Saturday, August 22, 2026 at St. James Basilica in Jamestown, ND

Visitation- 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, August 21, 2026 at the funeral home.

Interment- Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown, ND.
