Lawrence “Larry” Clayton Enzminger, 85, of Tappen, ND earned his wings and went to greener pastures on September 4, 2026. He passed peacefully with his family at side. Per Larry’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

Larry was born in Streeter, ND on April 12, 1941 to Edwin and Lydia (Ruff) Enzminger. The family moved to Tappen in 1952 where he later graduated from Tappen High School in 1959.

He joined the National Guard in 1958 and did active duty at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He was in the reserves for 8 years and honorably discharged in 1966.

Larry married the love of his life, Marlys Nicholson on March 11, 1961. They were blessed with four children; Darwin, Kari, Kyle and Darl. Larry and Marlys enjoyed 65 wonderful years together.

Larry worked for Northern Improvement for 13 years as a heavy equipment hauler, then went into the dairy business for 30 years.

Larry was a member of the Steele United Methodist Church and served on many boards; County FHA, church and school board. He was the Mayor of Tappen, 4-H leader where he organized and coached Kidder County Dairy Judging Team and lead them on to national competition two times. Chairman of ND Dairy Assoc. and Milk Producers. Received Honorary Chapter Farmer’s award in FFA, years of Quality of Milk awards and the “Milky Way Award”, which was the highest award given in the dairy industry.

Family was extremely important to Larry. He loved pinochle, reading, word search puzzles and his cattle.

Larry and Marlys were fortunate enough to visit most of the 50 states, Canada and Mexico.

Larry is survived by his wife Marlys, his children; Darwin (Danette) Enzminger, Buffalo, MN; Kari (friend Darin) Enzminger; Kyle Enzminger; and Darl (Julie) Enzminger, all of Steele, ND. Grandchildren; Trenton (Megan) Ochsner, Clayton (friend Sheyenne) Enzminger, Samantha (Wyatt) Gifford, Brandi (Aaron) Bitz, Desiree (Nathan) Morrison and Jarvis Enzminger. Step-grandchildren; James (Tasha) Kapp and Tomara Biggs. Great grandchildren; Caleb Frantz, Zane and Piper Ochsner, Everett, Kaisley, Mattaos and Kittley Gifford. Step-greatgrandchildren; Rayna and Regan Kapp. Sisters; Ramona Mayer, Marlys (Bill) Schmidt and Donna Hilmoe. Brother; Donald (Maria) Enzminger. Brother-in-law; Ervin Pfaff as well as many nieces and nephews.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents; Edwin and Lydia, brother; Melvin Enzminger, sisters; Verna Pfaff and Vangie Mittleider, father and mother-in-law; Leslie and Clara Nicholson, several brother in-laws, sister in-law, nephews, nieces and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 16 at 11:00am at the Steele United Methodist Church with burial following at the Dawson Cemetery.
