Jamestown ND (JRMC) – Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) presented Crystal Hovda, a registered nurse in its emergency department, with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Hovda was nominated by Sarah Kramer, whose son received care from Hovda during frightening seizures in the emergency department.
The DAISY Award is an internationally recognized program honoring nurses for their compassion and clinical excellence — values that align with JRMC’s commitment to excellence in patient care.
Kramer described Hovda’s clinical expertise, composure and compassionate support throughout her son’s medical emergency.
“Crystal … provided exceptional care throughout this frightening experience,” Kramer wrote in her nomination. “She responded quickly and skillfully to each situation, ensuring my son received the immediate attention he needed.”
Kramer shared how Hovda remained composed throughout her son’s care, working to keep him safe and stable while taking time to explain what was happening. She also advocated for her son and supported Kramer as a parent throughout the experience.
Beyond the clinical care she provided, Hovda’s compassion left a lasting impression.
“I would like to recognize Crystal for going above and beyond — not only in caring for my son but also advocating for him and supporting me through one of the most difficult moments our family has faced recently,” Kramer wrote.
Kramer was present when Hovda received the DAISY Award, giving her the opportunity to personally recognize the nurse she credited with making such a difference for her family during a frightening experience.
Hovda’s clinical skill, steady presence and compassion exemplify the qualities celebrated through the DAISY Award and the important role nurses play for patients and families during some of life’s most challenging moments.
