The Barnes County Historical Society Lecture Series Season 26 Presents: Lorna Olson – “Growing Up in the 1940s and 1950s.” 7:00 PM Thursday, October 15th, at the Barnes County Museum. (315 Central Ave N. Valley City, ND)
Take a step back in time and reminisce with Lorna Olson! Lorna spent her first 14 years as a farm girl, mostly in Griggs and Stutsman Counties, with several moves during those years. The last years of the 1950s were spent in Northfield, MN. She’ll be sharing memories of school, home life, medical home remedies, food, farming practices, family hardships, and more.
Lorna was born in 1941 and grew up during WWII. Attended Courtenay Elementary School, Northfield High School, and then Valley City State Teachers College and Dickinson State College. Married Dennis Olson from Litchville in 1960. She worked various jobs and retired in 2002. She and Dennis then volunteered for five years in the Bismarck School libraries, editing catalog records and later doing a couple of catalog projects for the district. The final volunteer project was cataloging the thousands of genealogy materials at the Barnes County Museum.
The public is cordially invited
All Lectures are at the Barnes County Historical Society Museum and held in conjunction with Valley City State University. They are free and open to the public.
