As winter and the holiday season approach, the need for a well-‐stocked food pantry in our community becomes more apparent. Valley City Public Schools, VCHS Student Council, Marketplace Food & Drug, Ingstad Family Media (KOVC/Q101), the Valley City Times-‐Record, and Coca-‐Cola invite you to be part of our annual food drive to support the Barnes County Food Pantry.
Stuff a Truck means that in one concentrated effort, we are going to fill a Coca Cola delivery truck full of food for the Barnes County Food Pantry. As you may know, Leevers Foods has been collecting food pantry donations for several weeks. We are continuing this effort through November because this is the time of year that the food pantry will be putting together baskets for the upcoming holidays. A loaded truck will be a welcome sight to the Food Pantry, as there is certainly a need in our community this year for their resources.
The official “Stuff the Truck 2013” collection event will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at the HiLiner Activity Center. Students will be on hand throughout the school day to accept donations from schools, churches, businesses, and individual community members.
To help with organization and to fill the specific needs of our food pantry, this year we are suggesting donations of the following 10 items: Canned Corn, Peas, Soup, Green Beans, & Pineapple, Cereal, Canned Ravioli, Cake & Pancake Mixes, and Boxed Instant Potatoes.
As always, Cash is especially useful to purchase frozen & perishable food items as well. All schools within Barnes County are invited to participate, as well as community groups and churches. Businesses are asked to consider donating to support this valuable community service as well.
Look for drop boxes at Marketplace Foods starting November 12 and watch for special events at the schools. Of course, you are always welcome to bring items directly to the HAC on November 20.
