Jamestown (CSi) — Jamestown’s Community Christmas Tree was officially lit for the season, Wednesday evening, at the Jamestown Civic Center, starting with the ceremony at 5:15 –p.m.  Over 50 people attended. Photos for CSi by Matt Sheppard.

     

The event featured Christmas carols and songs, a history of the tree and a Christmas message by Deacon Tom Geffre, chaplain at Ave Maria Village.

Coffee, hot chocolate and hot cider was served along with cookies, courtesy of the Main Street Downtown Association.

The tree was cut down and moved from the Jeff Schmidtt home located at 2015 – 5th St. N.E. City Forester Doug Wiles says the tree is 50 feet tall before being placed in the holder in front of the Civic Center. He says the tree weighs 9,800 pounds.

The tree cutting and trimming done by the city street department crew, the moving by Scherbenske and Son and the tree lights and decorations done by the Jamestown Fire Department.
