planetariumThe Valley City State University Planetarium (Room 309 Rhoades Science Center) is hosting a special event “Chasing the Aurora”

7 PM Thursday December 19, 2013 featuring planetarium alumni Durand “Duke” Johnson.

Very few people in the world have ever seen the aurora borealis, the northern lights. In March 2013, Salt Lake City, Utah, Clark Planetarium’s, Education Manager, Duke Johnson spent nearly two weeks in pursuit of the dazzling light show in Canada’s far north. Braving temperatures as cold as -40° F for up to eight hours at a time and trying to keep photographic gear working at those temperatures proved to be challenging. The presentation will be full of amazing pictures along with a 10 minute real aurora video taken with a fisheye lens that provides the best sense possible of an active aurora night.

This presentation is free and open to all.  For more information contact Wes Anderson 701-845-0966 or Alice Beauchman 701-845-7452
