Rail Car Safety Discussed, Local Meeting

Valley City (CSi) The topic of rail car transportation safety was discussed with Valley City and Barnes County representatives, and officials with Canadian Pacific Railway.

Canadian Pacific Railway officials met with the Valley City Barnes County fire and rescue squad along with Barnes County and Valley City officials on February 13, 2014.

Valley City Mayor Bob Werkhoven said the rail car derailment and explosion in Casselton last month, created an elevated height of concern.

He said Canadian Pacific Railway pointed out that the company would cover mitigation costs if an accident occurred.

BNSF officials said that as a precaution, oil rail cars seldom travel over the Hi Line Bridge.
