Jamestown (CSi) 400 to 500 volunteers at the Buffalo Mall Saturday packaged around 190,000 meals for the hungry with Kids Against Hunger. The Jamestown Kiwanis Club organized the event, and purchased $40,000 in supplies, $10,000 more than was raised last year.
Packaged meals included rice, soy, vegetables and vitamins, put together assembly line style in bags that were then boxed. The meals are water activated to the dried ingredients, which are then boiled and ready to eat.
A portion of the meals will be distributed locally through the Great Plains Food Bank.

Kiwanis Club President, Janna Bergstedt says more than 400 volunteers were needed to help package meals, or about 200 for each shift.
She points out that through donation there has been $40,000 worth of supplies purchased, and so more volunteers, are need than helped out last year.
Kids Against Hunger packages and sends meals consisting of vegetables, vitamins, rice and soy for starving children in the U.S. and abroad. Meal recipients need only to add water and boil the dried ingredients for 20 minutes. Meals are distributed internationally as well as locally.

The program uses highly nutritious, life-saving meals for starving children and families all across the U.S. In order to purchase supplies, An anonymous donor has agreed to donate $1 for every $2 raised, up to $25,000, meaning that this could potentially be the biggest in the club’s history.
