The Public Works Committee discussed a letter of request relating to parking at 301 2nd Ave Northwest from Vining Oil & Gas, LLC, concerning signage with two hour parking for two parking spaces on the east side of the building. Dave Vining said the parking spaces are sometimes occupied by vehicles from the nearby apartment residents. The committee recommends approval of the request.

The committee recommends establishing June 2 – 7th, 2014 as the 2014 City Wide Clean-Up week.

The committee then recommended approving the Engineering Department AutoCAD software, with a three year subscription, replacing outdated equipment.

The committee recommends a Change Order for the Wastewater Lift Station and force Main Improvement project, Phase One, adding a fault detection device.

Stormwater Committee met and reviewed the City of Jamestown Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan as prepared by the Engineering Department. The item is to meet North Dakota standard.

The committee recommends adding a Street Foreman and Equipment Operator III position under the Street Department to the Stormwater Sub-Committee.

Water Tower:    Council Member Brubakken suggested to add to the new Southwest Jamestown water tower, either a Blue Jay logo, or the word “Jamestown” rather than the approved one solid color with no logo. No official change order has been approved.  (The City council voted unanimously on March 3, 2014 to paint tower 1 color – see story)

The original base bid was for a white paint scheme with “Jamestown” in black letters on one side.

Mayor Andersen said tourism has expressed interest in having a logo on the tower, with no official request. She suggested making a color choice as soon as possible, with the logo to be decided later. Council Member Kourajian suggested a buffalo logo.

The painting is scheduled for April this year.

The committee Thursday, recommends moving the color choice decision to the April 7, 2014 City Council meeting.

The meeting was shown live on CSi 67, followed by replays.

Designs the City previously considered were:

verticalwatertower

Design 1 = white tower with black letters, word Jamestown. This was included in base bid for tower, at no additional cost. This is lowest cost option. Selecting this option would reduce the project cost by $25,000 as the alternate would be removed.

Design 2 = Royal Blue tower with white letters, word Jamestown. This alternate was originally selected at a cost of $25,000 and was approved by committee at Feb 20 meeting to do option 2 or 3.

Design 3 = Blue or white tower with Blue Jay logo and words Home of the Blue Jays or Jamestown Blue Jays. Option would cost $25,000. Logo faces Interstate.

Design 4 = Multi-colored design would add an additional $44,000, above the blue designs 2 & 3, and $69,000 over basic white. The words Jamestown North Dakota would face Interstate 94. This design would add additional time.

Design 5 = “Hot Air Balloon” design was proposed by Richard Klose. Wytheville, VA has a “ballon” tower – when called, reportedly paid $100,00 to $150,000 – had fundraiser to pay for it. This design would require a firm quote.
