Jamestown (CSi) A motorcycle run was held in Jamestown over this past weekend highlighted a women’s only event, and an awareness ride.

For the fist time the annual women-only motorcycle tour started from Jamestown and had 155 riders this year.

The ride in the past has been held in various cities across the state, along with South Dakota, Minnesota and Canada.

Founder and co-organizer Kathy Enders said she’d like to see the event held in Jamestown again in the future.

The motorcycle run started from Stutsman County Harley-Davidson at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, following a photo shoot at Frontier Village Saturday morning and a banquet at the Gladstone Inn & Suites Friday evening.

Also over the weekend, the first Jamestown motorcycle ride was held, “Silence the Stigma,” bringing attention to suicide prevention.

Over 80 bikers, riders and drivers helped to raise funds for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Ride Chairperson Margo Haut points out that part of erasing the stigma around mental illness and suicide is education.

Sunday’s event raised $4,905, to be divided between the national chapter of the foundation and the local chapter, with local funds to be used to start a support group and to supplement education and prevention work at Jamestown High School.

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, a free, 24/7 service that supports people who are suicidal or those around them, can be reached at (800) 273-8255.
