MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The Minnesota Twins have fired three coaches and their head athletic trainer in the wake of a second straight last-place finish in the AL Central.
The Twins announced the moves yesterday. Longtime bullpen coach Rick Stelmaszek, third base coach Steve Liddle, first base coach Jerry White and head athletic trainer Rick McWane did not have their contracts renewed for 2013.
Hitting coach Joe Vavra and bench coach Scott Ullger will stay on the staff but in different roles.
Manager Ron Gardenhire will enter the final year of his contract
without an extension.
Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan has removed the interim tag from his title.
Ryan said Friday he’s “all set and committed and ready to go”
to try to turn around the Twins, who lost 96 games this season and
99 the year before.
