Undated (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 27, 2012) — The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports, 40 to 50 cars went into into the ditch between 7-O’Clock Saturday night and noon Sunday.

Six vehicle accidents were also reported, along I-94 between Fargo and Jamestown, and I-29 from the South Dakota border, north to Hillsboro.

 

Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — A presentation with information on the Valley City sales tax renewal advisory vote and a discussion concerning the National Guard Interstate 94 development will be today (Monday, October 29, 2012) on CSi Cable 68.

The presentation will be shown live at 10-a.m., followed by replays on CSi 68.

Valley City Barnes County Economic Development Director Jennifer Feist says the presentation will focus on the Valley City Sales Tax renewal, and information on the National Guard expansion project, along with industrial/commercial development opportunities including the I-94 Regional Development Corridor, east of the John Deere Seeding Group plant.

A 77 acre tract of land owned by the Stan Ryan family will be annexed into Valley City for construction of the new National Guard facility and future development.

With the Valley City Sales tax, 70 percent of the 1 percent tax goes to economic development, 25 percent for property tax relief, and 5 percent for service and retail image enhancement.

Valley City Auditor, Avis Richter reminds voters, that absentee ballots for the City Sales Tax extension, Advisory vote are at City Hall.

The absentee ballots for the General Election are at the Barnes County Courthouse.

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Oct 22, 2012) — The Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corp. (JSDC) has announced that Congressman Berg’s office recently released the news that the USDA approved the $740,000 loan for the Spiritwood Energy Park.

This was the maximum loan amount available.

The loan has a zero percent interest rate with a ten year term.
This brings the total financial commitment from various financial sources to a total of $7.5 million.
The loan will help with the beginning phases of the projects that have been planned for the park.

The money from this loan will be used for the rail loop at the Spiritwood Energy Park.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Authorities are searching for two men who
robbed a blackjack dealer in Fargo at knifepoint.
     Police say the men walked into the bar area at Tailgators Sports
Cafe shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday, displayed the knife, and fled
with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was hurt.

 

 FARGO, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s hotly contested U.S. Senate
race has led party officials to ask questions about procedures
dealing with poll challengers and poll checkers at voting sites.
 Those questions have prompted Secretary of State Al Jaeger to send an
email to county auditors, informing them of balloting rules and
telling them he will send additional messages before Election Day.
     Republican Rick Berg and Democrat Heidi Heitkamp are locked in a
race that could determine which party controls the U.S. Senate.
     Poll challengers are appointed by party officials and can notify
the election board if they believe someone is not a qualified
voter. Poll checkers often have a list of party faithful and may
call and encourage those who haven’t voted yet to do so.

 

 DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) – Southwest North Dakota officials are
worried about unchecked housing growth and are moving forward with
caution.
 Stark County officials have stopped approving new subdivisions until the
more than 100 already in the county are at least 65 percent full.

     Dickinson City Administrator Shawn Kessel says the city is
attempting to balance present and future housing needs by looking
at the population trends and housing figures.

 

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Members of a grassroots environmental
group are backing a plan to provide oil tax money to help deal with
environmental issues in the oil patch.

Members of the Dakota Resource Council have voted to support a resolution to work with lawmakers on the issue. Oil patch residents say they want to
protect the environment in the area where drilling is booming.

 

 MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Minot International Airport and its long-time
parking operator have decided to part ways at the end of the year.
     ARM Parking, an operation of Dakota Territory Air Museum and the
Railroad Museum of Minot, declined to accept the terms of a
five-year management contract put up for bids recently.

 

 FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Five executives from a Chinese food importer
and distributor are slated to tour North Dakota through Wednesday.
Officials say the tour by SDIC International Trade Company is the
result of a trade mission to China earlier this year by North
Dakota government and business leaders.

WORLD SERIES

 DETROIT (AP) – The San Francisco Giants are celebrating their
second World Series title in three years after finishing a
four-game sweep of Detroit with a 4-3 win in 10 innings last night.
Marco Scutaro (SKOO’-tah-roh) delivered the big hit, an RBI single
with two out in the 10th.
      Pablo Sandoval, who slugged three home runs in
Game 1, was named World Series MVP. Sandoval batted .500 for the
series, and drove in four runs.
 
 DETROIT (AP) – Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw has
won the Roberto Clemente award, given annually to a major league
player who gives back through community service and also excels on
the field.
     The award was announced before Game 4 of the World Series.
Boston’s David Ortiz won last year.

 
    NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE

 GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) – Aaron Rodgers threw two touchdown passes
yesterday to lead the Green Bay Packers to a 24-15 win over the
Jacksonville Jaguars.

With the two scoring passes, Rodgers moved past Bart Starr for second place on Green Bay’s all-time list.
Dezman Moses gave the Packers their first TD on a blocked punt in
more than 20 years.
     
     CHICAGO (AP) – Robbie Gould kicked a 41-yard field goal as time
expired yesterday to give the Chicago Bears a 23-22 victory over
the Carolina Panthers.

Kellen Davis had a touchdown reception and Tim Jennings returned an interception for a TD in the fourth quarter for Chicago. Justin Medlock hit five field goals for the Panthers.
 

 DENVER (AP) -Peyton Manning tossed three TD passes in leading
Denver to a surprisingly easy 34-14 victory over New Orleans last
night.

The Broncos racked up 530 total yards against the Saints,
who became the first team in NFL history to allow at least 400
total yards in seven straight games.

  MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Freshman goalie Adam Wilcox stopped 20 shots
yesterday as Minnesota beat Canisius 1-0 in men’s hockey.

Kyle Rau scored 12 seconds into the game for Minnesota, and Wilcox made it
stand up. Minnesota has outscored its opponents 19-9 in five games.

 

 MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) – Five-time Sprint Cup champion Jimmie
Johnson is in a familiar spot in the race for the Chase for the
Sprint Cup championship.

Johnson took over the top spot by two points over Brad Keselowski with three races left by after his victory at Martinsville Speedway yesterday.

 T25- FOOTBALL POLL
          UNDATED (AP) – Alabama received all 60 first-place votes in the
AP top-25 football poll. The Crimson Tide upped their record to 8-0
win a win over Mississippi State Saturday night. The second ranked
school is Oregon with Kansas State third, Notre Dame fourth and LSU
fifth.
     The second five this week consists of Ohio State, Georgia,
Florida, Florida State and Clemson.
    
     Alabama and Kansas State are 1-2 in the latest BCS standings.
Notre Dame moved up to No. 3 after beating Oklahoma on Sunday.
Oregon stays fourth.

 

 MEN’S GOLF-CIMB CLASSIC
     KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) – Nick Watney shot a final round 61
to win the CIMB Classic, an unofficial PGA Tour event. Fellow
American’s Robert Garrigus and Bo Van Pelt tied for second, one
shot back.
     Tiger Woods finished three off the lead.
     
     LPGA-TAIWAN CHAMPIONSHIP
     YANG MEI, Taiwan (AP) – Suzann Pettersen (PEHT’-ur-suhn) won the
Taiwan Championship for her second straight LPGA Tour victory,
rallying to beat Inbee Park by three strokes. Pettersen closed with
a 3-under 69 in winds and drizzle that made birdies tough. The
Norwegian finished with a 19-under 269 to get her10th LPGA Tour
title.
     
     CHAMPIONS TOUR
   

     SAN ANTONIO (AP) – David Frost won the AT&T Championship by
beating Bernhard Langer with a birdie on the second hole of a
playoff after overcoming a six-stroke deficit in the final round.
     Frost and Langer each shot 6-under 66 to finish at 8-under 208
on TPC San Antonio’s Canyons Course.
     
     FORMULA ONE-INDIAN GP

     GREATER NOIDA, India (AP) – Red-hot Sebastian Vettel has done it
again. He won today’s Indian Grand Prix for his fourth straight
win. Vettel now leads Fernando Alonso, who finished second in the
race, by 13 points in the driver standings with three races
remaining. Vettel is the two-time defending overall F1 champion.

     
     WTA-CHAMPIONSHIPS

     ISTANBUL (AP) – Serena Willliams defeated Maria Sharapova
(shah-rah-POH’-vah) in the final of the WTA Championships. Williams
beat the Russian by the scores of 6-4, 6-3 and has now won the
event three times.
     Williams finished the 2012 season with a record of 59-4.
     
     TENNIS
 

     BASEL, Switzerland (AP) – Juan Martin del Potro (wahn mar-TEEN’
dehl POHT’-roh) won the Swiss Indoor title. He defeated Roger
Federer in the final 6-4, 6-7, 7-6.

 

In world and national news…

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – President Barack Obama is returning to
Washington earlier than planned today to oversee emergency
operations in response to Hurricane Sandy.

Obama canceled a scheduled appearance in Florida this morning as the storm threat grew.
     
     NEW YORK (AP) – Mass transit, schools and financial markets in
the Eastern Seaboard’s largest cities are closed today as a
strengthened Hurricane Sandy takes aim on the region where millions
have fled low-lying and coastal areas.

Sandy is on a collision course with two other weather systems that would create a superstorm with the potential for havoc from the East Coast to the
Great Lakes affecting up to 50 million people.
     
     NEW YORK (AP) – New York City faces a surge of seawater of
anywhere from 6 to 11 feet from Hurricane Sandy.

Schools, mass transit and financial trading are closed and hundreds of thousands have evacuated.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
calls the projected storm surge “the worst-case scenario” for New
York City, Long Island and northern New Jersey.
     
     PORTSMOUTH, Va. (AP) – The Coast Guard says the crew has
abandoned a tall ship in distress off North Carolina’s Outer Banks
as Hurricane Sandy swirls toward the East Coast.

A Coast Guard spokesman says the 17 people aboard the HMS Bounty replica have gotten into two lifeboats, wearing survival suits and life jackets.
