Relay For Life: Jamestown (CSi) Around 225 individuals and 20 teams for the Stutsman County Relay For Life cancer support event on Friday at the University of Jamestown Taylor Stadium. The annual event supports Stutsman County cancer support and research efforts
RFL Co-Chair Doreen Brophy says this year is special because all 20 teams that registered were present for the event. It is common that teams will register and support but other commitments may prevent them from being present for the Relay event.
Co-Chair Pam Phillips, says Relay for Life has raised roughly $73,000 so far.
Prior to the event $36,596 had been raised and more fundraising was taking place at the event.
Sue Parries was the top individual fundraiser with 270 luminary bags totalling $2,070. Her United Presbyterian Church booth raised $6,208.
Parries volunteers as a driver for patients needing transportation to treatment out of town.
Mary Klundt of the Jerry Iverson Construction team said they raised $2,600 just from their the Runnin ‘O the Green designated driver event.
With the Silent Auction, Committee Leader, Jami Reister says the auction is expected to match the $1,000 they earned in 2014.
Durfee Ride:
Jamestown (CSi) Benefit is scheduled for Shawn Durfee who was involved in a motorcycle-car accident in Jamestown that led to a below-the-knee amputation on his left leg.
On the afternoon of April 28, 2015, 40 year-old Shawn Durfee was struck by a car while driving his motorcycle on First Avenue North in Jamestown receiving extensive injuries to his left leg and wrist.
After treatment in Jamestown, he was airlifted to a Fargo hospital where he has undergone several surgeries and many more will be required.
The Individual Motorcycle Club and Dennis Barton from the FM Crusaders Motorcycle Club have set up a benefit bike ride that will be held June 6, 2015 and begins in Jamestown. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Corner Bar. The cost for the bike ride is $20 per driver and $10 for a passenger, and will begin at noon at the Corner Bar in Jamestown.
