BOCA RATON, Fla. — The Minnesota Twins remained active during the league’s general managers meeting Wednesday by trading outfielder Aaron Hicks to the New York Yankees.
The Twins will receive John Ryan Murphy, a 24-year-old catcher who spent last season in a reserve role. Murphy is a career .267 hitter in 115 games over parts of three seasons.
Hicks started the 2015 season as the team’s starting centerfielder, but played in the corner outfield positions when top prospect Byron Buxton was promoted mid-season. Considered a late bloomer, Hicks hit his stride at the plate in his third major league season, batting .256 with career highs in home runs, runs batted in and stolen bases in 2015.
PHOENIX (AP) – The Arizona Diamondbacks have acquired catcher-outfielder Chris Herrmann from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for minor league outfielder-first baseman Daniel Palka. Herrmann has appeared in 142 games for the Twins over the past four seasons. He played in 69 games as a catcher and 36 as a right fielder.
