Lost Pet Segment from The Byers Show on CSi 2:  Wayne visited with  Jamestown Police Department’s, Animal Control Officer, Becky Johnson and Dana Wallace – James River Humane Society.   Click on video to listen to interview recorded December 14, 2012.  With lost or found animals, contact the Jamestown Law Enforcement Center at 252-1000.

Johnson said an accurate description of the animals color, markings size, and even gender will help authorities in locating the animal. She added that animals picked up without license tags are held at the city kennel for 24 hours, and 72 hours for licensed animals.   She stressed that owners looking for a lost pet should pay a personal visit to the holding facilities to check for their pet, as verbal description often mean different things to different people.   Any fees and fines must be paid, by the owner before the animal is released.   Don’t worry,  they can be worked out.

Officer Johnson said, she will scan for microchip,  found animals, but added that the information is not always a sure way to locate the owner.  The Humane Society shelter can microchip your pet.   Animals must have a current license attached to a collar. She said even if the animal is properly licensed, the tag must be present on the collar. Licenses are required for animals over three months old, and are available at the Jamestown Law Enforcement Center, with the option of one year or three year duration, before renewals.

CSi Cable 2 will also run free notices, for a period of time, of lost or found animals. Call 252-2400 for more information.

For more information contact Jamestown Police Animal Control Officer, Becky Johnson through the Jamestown Law Enforcement Center, at 252-1000.
