Jamestown  (UJ, CSi) University of Jamestown head volleyball coach Jon Hegerle has announced the signing of Laura Squires of Breezy Point, Minn., who will join the Jimmies in the 2016-17 season.

Laura played volleyball at Pequot Lakes High School where she was named to the Brainerd Dispatch All-Area Team while earning All-Conference and Academic All-State honors. She was named Defensive MVP of her team her senior season, recording 489 digs.

A 5’7’’ defensive specialist/libero, Squires recorded over 1000 digs in her career. During her senior season she had 31 service aces while serving 97.3 percent. Squires also competed in basketball and softball in high school.

“We are looking forward to having Laura join our program next fall,” said Hegerle. “Laura is a determined and competitive volleyball player that is not afraid to work hard in pursuit of her goals. She is a natural leader and will be a great asset to the Jimmie volleyball program. Laura’s work ethic combined with her natural intelligence have led her to great success in the classroom as well, and I have no doubt she will excel as a student-athlete at the University of Jamestown!”

Laura plans to major in Chemistry, Psychology, or Business Administration.
