Bismarck (CSi) The North Dakota High School Activities Association (NDHSA has voted for a preliminary football plan that effective in the 2017-18 season.
The realignment suggestions will be released in late March and nothing official until October.
The proposed plan would take two teams, Jamestown and Devils Lake out of the Class AAA division and drop the total number down to 14.
Ten teams would make up Class AA, 32 teams at Class A, and the rest playing Nine-man football.
Enrollment numbers puts Devils Lake outside the top-14. Jamestown is just below the cut line as well.
Jamestown, Fargo North, and Grand Forks Central all are within a 100 students of each other.
Schools have the option to opt-up a division.
The potential change doesn’t appear it will effect Valley City, Oakes or Carrington.
There will also be some debate on the cut line for Class AA. Six teams; Dickinson Trinity, Stanley/Powers Lake, Central Dakota, Central Cass, Beluah, and Grafton all are within a small number of each other and figure to make up the final two Class AA spots.
