Jamestown (CSi) University of Jamestown men’s hockey head coach Dean Stork announces the signing of two more players to the 2016-17 roster. Brett Harris and Cole Zimmerman, currently playing for 100 Mile House Wranglers of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, will join the Jimmies in the fall of 2016.
“The best players out of the KIJHL end up being top players in the ACHA Division 1 league,” said Stork. “By the time they are juniors and seniors, you’re going to have a really good opportunity in winning a national title.”
Harris is originally from 100 Mile House, British Columbia. The 5′ 11″, 180 pound forward is in his second season with the Wranglers and currently leads the team in scoring. In 2015-16, Harris has 17 goals and 38 assists with 19 penalty minutes.
“He’s a smart player, he thinks the game really well,” said Stork. “He can play at both ends of the ice. He can defend, he can create offense. And he’s a good leader in the locker room.”
Zimmerman, a 6′ 3″, 170 pound forward, also hails from 100 Mile House, British Columbia. With 17 goals and 16 assists, Zimmerman is third on the Wranglers’ scoring list this season. His 68 penalty minutes is the fourth-highest on the team.
“Cole brings an element to 100 Mile House with his size, skating ability and his shot,” said Stork. “He doesn’t shy away from the physical point of the game. He’s a threat every time he’s on the ice. A lot of teams will give him an opportunity when he has graduated college. That’s why I really went after Cole.”
