VALLEY CITY, N.D. (AP) – Charity organizers throughout Barnes County say they’ve seen record donations this year as residents and businesses donated time and money to help those in need.
The county’s Salvation Army saw its best year ever. An anonymous donor gave $7,500 to the organization Wednesday, bringing its already record-breaking total to about $53,500. The number is up more than $9,000 from last year.
The group’s chairman, Lee Isensee, says he’s grateful that residents “really stepped forward.”
Pat Hansen of the county’s food pantry has also done well thanks to several food drives. Valley City Public School students donated 109 tubs of food in mid-November, bringing in more than 4,000 items and nearly $400 in cash.
