Owen T. Steckler, 12, Buffalo, ND passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2020 due to an ATV accident near his home.
Owen Thomas Steckler was born on May 1, 2008 at Fargo, ND to Brian and Amanda (Killoran) Steckler. Owen was going to enter the 6th grade in the fall.
Owen was a bright, fun-loving, adventurous kid that had a great passion for life. Owen loved to be outdoors hunting, fishing, or just hanging out with his family and his dog Twix. He also loved shooting pool when the weather wouldn’t cooperate. He had a huge and kind heart and would do anything to not see someone hurting. Owen was diagnosed with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy (LGMD2e) two years ago. Even when faced with the challenges of this, he never let it keep him from enjoying life and living every minute to its fullest. This disease was the start of the most amazing journey for Owen. He was able to go on a once in a lifetime deer, turkey and pheasant hunt. He took trips to Hawaii, New Jersey, and New York. In November 2019, Owen received gene therapy treatment for LGMD2e through a clinical trial at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH. This will hopefully lead to the cure for his type of Muscular Dystrophy and help many kids with this disease. Owen is a true hero and an incredible inspiration to all that have met him in his short, but full life.
Owen is survived by his parents Brian and Amanda, brother Carter and sister Madisyn, all of Buffalo, ND, grandparents Thomas and Vickie Steckler, of Jamestown, ND, and Jerry and Sheree Killoran, of Buffalo, ND, along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous special friends. Owen was preceded in death by his great-grandparents.
The family requests that those who attend Owen’s service please dress casually; preferably wearing orange; his favorite color or your Team Owen T-Shirt.
In lieu of flowers, family wishes donations be made to the Catch A Dream Foundation: 2485 Ennis Road, Starkville, Mississippi 39759, or to Outdoor Adventure Foundation: 415 38th St. S, Fargo, ND 58103.
