Valley City (Csi) The Barnes County Sheriff’s Office reports, the suspect of the East Crossing burglary has been identified.
The sheriff”s office was seeking the public’s help in identifying a man who broke into a building early Friday morning.
The Sheriff’s Office reports, charges have not been brought against the man as of Monday afternoon. Once charges are brought the man’s name will be released. Authorities say the suspect was cooperative and the sheriff’s office recovered a large amount of stolen property.
Barnes County Chief Deputy Don Fiebiger says the man was captured on security cam video crawling through a window into the East Crossing building along Lake Ashtabula. That incident was recorded about 4:00AM on May 5th.
Items were reportedly stolen from several locations including Bald Hill Dam Resort, East Crossing, Campground Host. Items included those taken out of a shed and boat on a trailer near East Crossing lake homes, a maintenance shop in Bjornson Park, items from the U-S Fish Hatchery office.
Fiebiger thanked the public for their help in identifying the suspect.

Valley City (CSi) The IRS reports yet another phone scam in Valley City and the area.
The scam caller says, the call is “the final notice from the Internal Revenue Service to inform you the IRS is filing a lawsuit against you and to get more information about this case call 202-341-7794.”
Do not return the call… it’s a scam to get personal bank account information and social security numbers to take money out of your accounts.
Anyone receiving such a call should contact local law enforcement and report the incident.
Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Planning Commission Monday, authorized SRF Consulting, a planning firm retained by the commission, to prepare a memo detailing how other communities in North Dakota determine if a traffic impact study is warranted for a new development.
The exploring of options may lead to request the Jamstown City Council to reconsider its position on requiring traffic impact studies for new developments in Jamestown.
The City Council voted down a traffic impact study ordinance at its April 4 meeting. The ordinance would have required that developers furnish the city with an engineer’s study on the impacts the new development would have on traffic flows in the areas surrounding the development.
The request for the City Council to reconsider a possible traffic impact study ordinance could become part of the 2016 prioritization of action items presented by SRF to the City Planning Commission.
In other business, the Planning Commission gave preliminary plat and zoning approval to the Sumac Ridge Addition located in the 600 block of 11th Street Southwest or immediately behind the Jamestown Fire Department station located at the base of Mill Hill.
The developer plans to build three twin homes on the property with two yet to be constructed this summer and one planned for 2017 or 2018.

Washington (CSi) Senators John Hoeven and Heidi Heitkamp say President Barack Obama has official signed into law legislation naming the bison as the U.S. national mammal.
In a news release, Heitkamp’s office pointed out that the U.S. Senate unanimously passed the National Bison Legacy Act in December 2015, and the U.S. House of Representatives passed the bill this month, sending it to the President’s desk to be signed into law.
The National Bison Legacy Act recognizes the historical, cultural and economic impact that bison have had – and continue to have – in the country throughout history. Many Native American tribes in North Dakota and across the country consider the bison sacred, and bison remain an important part of Native culture and heritage and today.
There are bison in all 50 states, whether in parks, refuges, or zoos.
Heitkamp said: “Bison embody the spirit and strength of our great country, and I’m proud to have co-sponsored this push to make the bison our national mammal. For thousands of years bison have been a noble fixture of the prairie, and they have long played an important and revered role in Native cultures. Our conservation efforts have restored their herds, once on the verge of extinction, so there are now 500,000 roaming the continent. Bismarck (CSi) Law enforcement agencies in North Dakota worked over 400 overtime hours during the national distracted driving campaign U Drive. U Text. U Pay in April.
According to the North Dakota Department of Transportation, a total of 370 citations were attributed to the added patrols. Of those citations, 141 were issued for distracted driving, 44 for speeding, 40 for no seatbelt, 13 suspended/revoked licenses, eight warrants served and one felony arrest.
Several statewide agencies participated in the effort including the Jamestown Police Department. Just because extra patrols are wrapped up, doesn’t mean you can still text and drive. Jamestown Sgt. Brian Miller stated that it’ll cost anyone who is seen texting and driving.
Funding for the extra April patrols were provided by federal grant money distributed through the NDDOT.

MANDAN, N.D. (AP) – Authorities say a 51-year-old man is dead after the motorcycle he was driving jumped a curb and hit a light pole in Mandan.
The Highway Patrol has identified the man as 51 year old Duane Buechler, of Mandan.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol said in a news release that the crash happened at 12:47 a.m. Monday. The release says the motorcycle was traveling west when it crossed into eastbound lanes and struck a curb, jumping the curb and striking a light pole.
The Highway Patrol says Buechler fell from the motorcycle and came to rest partially on a sidewalk. According to the Highway Patrol, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The patrol says he was not wearing a helmet. The crash is being investigated.
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Authorities say a 20-year-old Williston man is dead after the pickup he was driving crashed head-on with another vehicle.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol said in a news release that 20-year-old Taylor Dopson died from injuries sustained in the Sunday morning crash south of Williston.
The release says Dopson was driving a Chevrolet pickup on U.S. Highway 85 that crossed the paved median and struck a Kenworth truck head-on. According to the Highway Patrol, the Chevrolet went into a ditch and started on fire.
The Highway Patrol says the 34-year-old man driving the other vehicle was injured and taken to a hospital by helicopter.
FARGO, N.D. (AP) – A Minneapolis man accused of bringing a woman to North Dakota for prostitution has been sentenced to more than three years in federal prison.
Ronnel Johnson was arrested last year on Interstate 94 near Valley City while traveling from Minnesota to the western North Dakota oil patch.
Authorities say Johnson’s cell phone had sexually explicit photographs of at least two women that were identical to photographs that ran in Backpage.com advertisements for commercial sex in western North Dakota.
The 31-year-old Johnson pleaded guilty in January to transportation for the purposes of prostitution.
Johnson’s lawyer, Christopher Lancaster, argued at Monday’s hearing for a sentence of not more than two years. The government asked for a sentence of five years.
Judge Ralph Erickson sentenced Johnson to 40 months in prison.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Felony charges have been filed against a Grand Forks man who allegedly fired a gun in an apartment and possessed homemade bombs.
Thirty-two-year-old Jeffrey Cutter could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted of reckless endangerment and possession of explosives.
Court documents do not list an attorney for him, and a home telephone listing couldn’t be found. He could enter pleas at a June 13 court hearing.
Authorities allege Cutter fired a gun through the floor of an apartment about 5:30 a.m. Saturday. No one was hurt. Police said officers who responded found “concerning” items and called in a bomb squad that found three homemade bombs. WDAZ-TV reports that authorities say the bombs contained projectiles, making them even more lethal.
ROSEBUD, S.D. (AP) – The remains of at least 10 Native American children who died nearly 2,000 miles away from their homes while being forced to attend a government-run boarding school in Pennsylvania more than a century ago could soon be repatriated under an effort undertaken by a South Dakota tribe. Leaders of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe hope that a meeting with representatives from the U.S. Army and other tribes scheduled for Tuesday will begin the negotiation process to repatriate the remains of the 10 children.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A wolverine that was shot and killed by a western North Dakota rancher spent time during its life in at least two western states.
The wolverine killed last month when it was harassing livestock in McKenzie County was the first confirmed in North Dakota in more than a century. The last one was during the fur-trading era of the mid-1800s.
North Dakota’s Game and Fish Department says a radio tracking device that was installed in the animal’s abdomen in 2008 in Wyoming showed the wolverine’s last known location was in Colorado in 2012. The device’s battery likely gave out after that.
State wildlife officials say the rancher who killed the wolverine acted within the law, which allows state residents to kill wild furbearers to protect livestock or crops.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says the state has about $100,000 available to fund research and promotion of honeybees.
The agency is seeking grant proposals in five research areas – colony collapse disorder, varroa mite control, honeybee viruses, pathogen management and other problem-solving ideas.
Goehring says proposals must have a direct benefit to North Dakota honey producers. The deadline for proposals is June 1.

Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown City Park Board has delayed decisions on four projects pending enough dollars to pay for the projects.
At the Monday meeting the board tabled consideration of reshingling the roofs of the grandstand and press box at Jack Brown Stadium and the Bunker and an adjacent storage shed at Hillcrest Municipal Golf Course.
Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department director, Doug Hogan read the bids, which ranged in price from $41,025 from Iverson Construction to $46,803 from Hillerud Construction, both of Jamestown.
Also tabled was consideration of replacing the back driveway at John L. Wilson Arena, and fencing around the recently rebuilt irrigation pond at Hillcrest Municipal Golf Course.
Jamestown (CSi- UJ) The Jimmie baseball team dropped a 9-6 decision to the Mayville State University Comets in the semifinals of the North Star Athletic Association conference tournament, Monday at Jack Brown Stdium in Jamestown.
The loss ended Jamestown’s run in the tournament, but UJ will be one of the host’s for next week’s opening round of the NAIA National Championship.
The North Star Athletic Association conference championship game was won by Bellevue, 14-1, over Mayville State.
The Comets earn the conference’s automatic bid to the national tournament; joining Bellevue (regular-season champion) and Jamestown (host).
The brackets will come out Friday at 3pm. Jack Brown Stadium will host a five-team double-elimination tournament beginning May 17th.

WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – A Williston angler over the weekend landed what might be a North Dakota record paddlefish.
Grant Werkmeister snagged a whopper on Saturday that weighed an unofficial 131 pounds. That would beat the record 130-pounder caught in May 2010 by Alex Mergen, of Black Hawk, South Dakota.
The North Dakota Game and Fish Department must verify that Werkmeister’s catch is a state record.
Werkmeister says he’s been fishing for 20 years, and “never expected to pull something like that out of the water.”

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The Minnesota Twins have postponed their series opener against the Baltimore Orioles because of bad weather.
Rain fell throughout Monday afternoon, preventing both teams from taking batting practice. Though the tarp remained on the infield, the national anthem was sung and the ceremonial first pitch was thrown out. The skies had been dry for about an hour when the Twins made the announcement to call off the game. Radar showed heavy precipitation approaching.
The makeup date was set for July 28.
The Orioles and Twins are scheduled to play again Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon, but the forecast is calling for more rain, making a doubleheader a tenuous bet.

UNDATED (AP) – Stephen Curry scored 17 of his game-high 40 points in overtime as the Golden State Warriors rallied to beat Portland 132-125 in overtime to take a three-games-to-one lead in the NBA’s Western Conference semifinals. Curry shot 16-for-32 and had nine rebounds and eight assists in his first action since missing four straight games with a sprained right ankle. Klay Thompson had 23 points for the Warriors, who trailed 21-5 before rallying.
Meanwhile, Dwyane (dwayn) Wade and the Miami Heat have knotted their Eastern Conference semifinal series at two games apiece with a comeback victory against Toronto.
Wade hit two big baskets and finished with a game-high 30 points as the Heat downed the Raptors 94-87 in overtime. The Miami guard supplied a game-tying layup with 12.6 seconds left in regulation and added a dunk to ice the victory. Wade also scored five straight points after the Raptors went ahead 79-72 with five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE PLAYOFFS
ST. LOUIS (AP) – The Dallas Stars have forced a seventh game in their NHL second-round series with the Blues by taking an early 3-0 lead in a 3-2 triumph at St. Louis. Mattias Janmark and Vernon Fiddler scored 20 seconds apart early in the opening period before Jason Spezza’s (SPEHT’-suhz) goal chased Brian Elliott from the nets. Kari Lehtonen (KAH’-ree LEH’-toh-nehn) stopped 35 shots and blanked the Blues until Alex Steen’s goal 7:29 into the second period.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Nashville and San Jose are headed to a Game 7 in the NHL’s second round after the Predators erased deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 before knocking off the Sharks 4-3 on Viktor Arvidsson’s goal 2:03 into overtime. Colin Wilson forced OT by beating Martin Jones with 7:16 left in regulation, about 2 1/2 minutes after Logan Couture’s (koo-TOORZ’) power-play goal put the Sharks up 3-2. The Predators rallied after Chris Tierney scored twice in a 1:56 span to put San Jose ahead 2-0 midway through the first period.
Vikings…
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) – The Minnesota Vikings have signed kick returner and former Minnesota Golden Gopher Troy Stoudermire.
The Vikings announced the signing on Monday along with rookie cornerback Tre Roberson from Illinois State.
Stoudermire set the NCAA record for kick return yardage while he was with the Gophers and spent time at both cornerback and receiver. He spent the last three years as a defensive back in the CFL, but the Vikings are calling him as a receiver in his return to Minnesota.
Stoudermire’s best chance at making the team will be as a return specialist, where he will compete with Cordarrelle Patterson, Marcus Sherels and others for that job.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The artificial turf at the new home of the Minnesota Vikings is set to be installed.
Installation is expected to start Tuesday at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. The Star Tribune reports the turf is expected to be much more advanced and durable than the AstroTurf installed when the Vikings’ former home the Metrodome opened in 1982.
Vikings vice president Lester Bagley says U.S. Bank Stadium’s turf is “one of the last visible milestones” of construction. The turf will be covered for non-athletic events such as concerts.
Michele Kelm-Helgen, who chairs the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority, tells Minnesota Public Radio News that real grass turf will be brought in for a Aug. 3 International Cup soccer match, which will be the stadium’s first athletic event.
Timberwolves…
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Minnesota Timberwolves guard Zach LaVine has been awarded the NBA Cares Community Assist award for April.
The NBA announced the award on Monday. LaVine earned the recognition for his work with Metro Deaf School in St. Paul. LaVine makes periodic trips to the school throughout the year and donated a portion of his winnings from the Slam Dunk contest to build a new kitchen.
LaVine received $10,000 to donate to his charity of choice. He chose the Flip Saunders Legacy Fund, named in honor of the former Timberwolves coach who died in October.
LaVine says he is humbled to receive the award and plans on continuing his relationship with Metro Deaf School for years to come.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) – Golden State Warriors guard Stephen (STEH’-fehn) Curry will be named the NBA’s most valuable player for the second straight year. That’s according to a person with knowledge of the award who says the league will announce the winner as soon as today. Curry led the league in scoring with 30.1 points per game and shattered his own record for 3-pointers by making 402.
UNDATED (AP) – David Joerger (YAY’-gur) has become the ninth head coach of the Sacramento Kings since the team went to the 2006 playoffs under Rick Adelman. Joerger went 147-99 with three playoff appearances in as many seasons with the Grizzlies before he was dismissed on Saturday. He replaces George Karl, who was 44-68 in one-plus season with the Kings.

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) – A lawsuit over the Colorado theater shootings begins today with opening statements. Jurors will be asked to decide whether, in an age of mass shootings, the company that owns the theater should have foreseen the shooting that left 12 dead and more than 70 others injured. Twenty-eight victims and their families are suing the theater company. Their lawsuit says Cinemark should have had silent alarms and armed guards at the packed midnight premiere of a Batman film.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – A strong series of storms that hit the Plains, spawning tornadoes, causing property damage and killing at least two people in Oklahoma are still churning today, heading for parts of the Ohio and Tennessee valleys. Forecasters say another storm system could bring storms to an area from north Texas to near St. Louis tomorrow.
WASHINGTON (AP) – The Pentagon has confirmed that a top Islamic State leader in Iraq’s Anbar province has been killed by a coalition airstrike. A spokesman says Abu Wahib and three others were killed when their vehicle was struck on May 6. A senior U.S. official said it was an American airstrike. Wahib is said to a former member of al-Qaida in Iraq and has appeared in Islamic State execution videos.
BERLIN (AP) – Bavaria’s top security official now says the suspect in a stabbing at a train station near Munich apparently had psychological problems and drug issues. State Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann says investigators have no indications that the suspect had an Islamic extremist motive and that the 27-year-old has confessed to carrying out the attack. One victim died at a hospital.
MILAN (AP) – Italian authorities say they have arrested two Afghan citizens in a terrorism and human trafficking investigation and have issued arrest warrants for three others, only one of whom is believed to be in Italy. Prosecutors in the southern city of Bari say that cell phone data seized from four of the suspects in December included numerous photos of potential targets. A prosecutor says there’s no evidence of a specific plot.
