Jamestown (CSi) A private reception was held Friday afternoon, at the Historic 1883 Stutsman County Courthouse in Jamestown, for the Dedication of The Mary Faith Young Room .

At the event the family and friends of Mary Young were on hand to dedicate the clerk of court office in the historic courthouse in honor of Young.

A ribbon cutting was held to officially open the room.

Speakers included:

State Historical Society, Historic Sites Manager, Guinn Hinman

1883 Courthouse Committee President, Mike Williams

The Dedicatory remarks were given by the State Historical Society, former President, Jim Sperry.

Also remarks were given by former Jamestown Sun Editor, Jim Smorada, a personal friend of Mary’s.

Following the dedication, refreshments were served.

The program reminds residents that when the 1883 Stutsman County Courhouse was threatened with demolition, Mary Young passionately advocated to save and restore the building. Faced with Staunch opposition, Mary established, “Project ’83,” a group of Jamestown citizens dedicated to saving the building, creating awareness and raising funds for its restoration.

Mary passed away on November 14, 2015. In January 2016, the State Historical Society Board honored her legacy by naming the historic Clerk of Court’s Office, the “Mary Faith Youhg Room, as a gesture of memorial and remembrance to her legacy and tireless efforts to save the courthouse.

The efforts are continuing.

Jamestown (CSi)  On Saturday over 800 visitors toured the courthouse, as  the State Historical Society of North Dakota and the 1883 Courthouse Committee opened the doors to the historic structure for all to see.   Video taken before the doors opened posted on line at CSiNewsNow.com.

Police are looking for a man they want to interview in the case. They are calling him a person of interest, not a suspect. But they also say that since they don’t know his mental or emotional state, 22-year-old Landon Lauwagie should be considered a risk to public safety.

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Two Fargo residents are in custody across the Minnesota border in Moorhead after a police chase that ended when the suspects crashed their vehicle.

Police say the 22-year-old man and 19-year-old woman fled a traffic stop about 12:45 a.m. Monday, traveling up to 70 mph in a 30 mph zone. The vehicle they were in eventually went out of control on a curve and slammed into a floodwall.

Both suspects then fled on foot. The woman was found hiding behind the floodwall. The man was taken into custody after allegedly fighting with officers.

Police say they recovered what they suspect is a bag of methamphetamine.

According to court documents, Maxwell’s wife also had told authorities that her husband is a military veteran who suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder after being deployed.

Ward County State’s Attorney Roza Larson agreed to take out language that would have required Maxwell to serve two years under state

ELGIN, N.D. (AP) – A Lake Tschida camping area will be closed and a boat ramp will be taken out as of May 28 due to a tiff with a neighboring landowner.
The Bismarck Tribune reports  that Koehler’s Point will be closed by the Bureau of Outdoor Reclamation because the bureau is unable to obtain a road easement. Bureau spokeswoman Patience Hurley says walk-in use is the only way the point will be open.
Hurley says the matter came to a head when landowner Corey Roth put up speed bumps and fences, leading to access being unsafe.
Roth says he recorded a new public easement across his land to the camping area that provides a roadway measuring between 18 and 33 feet wide. Hurley says a 33-foot easement is required by the bureau.

Preliminary results already have given biologists valuable information, including data on the percentage of catchable-size fish being harvested by anglers. The angling mortality rate in the first three years of the study has ranged from 17-27 percent.

North Dakota Fisheries Chief Greg Power says angler mortality rates in comparable lakes in the region also are in the 25 percent range. He says total walleye mortality in Oahe is about 35-40 percent, below the typical range in North America of 40-55 percent.
