BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Governor Jack Dalrymple and lawmakers say oil issues will dominate this year’s Legislature.

Dalrymple and Senate majority leader Rich Wardner of Dickinson say they’ve received plenty of suggestions on how to spend oil tax revenue that is fattening state coffers. Those suggestions will play a big role in what’s tackled during the legislative session that convenes Tuesday, January 8, 2013.

Dalrymple says his proposed $12.8 billion budget addresses the needs in the oil patch, including road work and additional law enforcement.

Senate Democratic minority leader Mac Schneider of Grand Forks says he believes lawmakers have a “moral obligation” to communities in the oil patch to address the problems caused by increased oil production.

Wardner says the job of lawmakers in the upcoming session will be to “sort out the wants versus the needs.”
