Jamestown (CSi) The Stutsman County Relay for Life is Friday June 10 at the University of Jamestown Taylor Stadium from noon to midnight.

The Stutsman County Relay for Life Co-Event Chairs, Chelsey Francis and Amanda Thrift on the Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, said this year goal is to raise $100,000. So far, fundraisers throughout the year have brought in $67,000, so at least $33,000 is needed to reach this year’s goal.

Last year’s goal of $90,000 was reached, so this year another roughly $27,000 would match last year’s total.

A silent auction runs from 2-p.m., to 8-p.m.

They pointed out that on Friday, Jun 10th, volunteers are needed starting at 8-a.m., at UJ’s Taylor Stadium to help with set up of tents, and tables, along with placing luminaries around the track.

Help is also needed in assisting with parking in the stadium lot, and to keep the track and stadium picked up during and after the Relay.

The Highway Patrol said the four-seat plane crashed Thursday afternoon into May Lake while en route to Bismarck.

Authorities say complications during takeoff from Wishek’s airport resulted in the crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.

WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) – A Watford City man has been sentenced to serve 18 years in prison for sexually abusing two girls for nearly a decade.

Sixty-year-old Lance Foreman pleaded guilty in February to two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child. He was sentenced this week during a hearing attended by the victims and their families.

One of the victims is now 16. She told a social worker that the abuse began when she was 5 and lasted until she was 14.

Defense attorneys said Foreman was abused as a child, though he did not offer that as an excuse.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem has banned a Florida man’s sham credit card interest reduction operation from doing business in North Dakota.

Stenehjem said Thursday that Clarence “Harry” Wahl and his wife were leaving illegal pre-recorded messages with sham offers to lower consumers’ credit card interest rates.

The scams have been circulating in North Dakota for years. The phony offer requires a consumer to pay an advance fee to get a lower interest rate, but the scam artist simply takes the money.

Stenehjem says the con artists target people outside of their own state to stay ahead of authorities long enough to cash in.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Bismarck Police and the Burleigh County Sheriff’s Department are billing an oil industry group more than $13,000 for overtime the agencies spent during Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s visit to the capital city last month. BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A group studying North Dakota’s criminal justice system says probation and parole officers lack the necessary resources to effectively supervise people.

Research from the Council of State Governments Justice Center shows more than 1,000 people had probation revoked in 2014, adding to the prison population and driving up costs.

A survey of probation officers found nearly one-fourth weren’t confident that they could hold people accountable.

Project manager Katie Mosehauer says North Dakota jails are too full to take people for short, punitive sanctions. And treatment often requires a long wait, if it’s available at all.

Senior policy adviser Steve Allen says higher-risk offenders should get priority access to treatment, and jail space should be made available for people to serve short sentences for probation violations.
