Police say the victim suffered a gunshot wound to an arm shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday. Further details weren’t immediately released.

Authorities believe the two people involved in the incident knew one another. Police are searching for the shooter.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Grand Forks police are investigating the overnight burglary of three businesses in a strip mall.

Authorities say break-ins were discovered at a flower business, a mattress store and a golf shop.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A 61-year-old Minot man accused of sexually abusing a girl he was baby-sitting has avoided prison time under a plea deal with prosecutors.

Carl Short entered an Alford plea this week to a felony gross sexual imposition charge. He was given a suspended 10-year sentence and five years of supervised probation.

An Alford plea means Short doesn’t admit guilt but acknowledges there is enough evidence to convict him. He said in court that he feared dying in prison if found guilty at trial. His attorney said the defense also didn’t want to put the child on the stand during a trial.

Prosecutor Kelly Dillon said she agreed to the plea agreement because she might have difficulties obtaining a conviction at trial.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The 91st Missile Wing at Minot Air Force Base is getting a new leader.

The base has scheduled a change-of-command ceremony Friday morning. Col. Colin Connor will be replacing Col. Michael Lutton as wing commander.

Connor formerly served at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.

The Minot-based wing oversees Minuteman III missiles buried in silos across the northern North Dakota countryside.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Bobcat Co. says it is moving manufacturing of compact excavators from its Gwinner facility to the company’s plant in Bismarck.

The company said Thursday that it estimates about 160 jobs will be created in Bismarck, while roughly 140 employees will be cut in Gwinner.

The West Fargo-based company makes light construction equipment. It says the jobs impacted in Gwinner are expected to be managed through attrition.

Laura Ness Owens of Bobcat says that Bismarck provides the resources, manufacturing space and greater capacity the company needs to remain successful in the excavator market.

The company says moving manufacturing to Bismarck offers the space necessary to produce its next generation of compact excavators.

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Manufactured Housing Association is calling for an investigation into a buyout program for flood protection in Minot.

Some former residents of a mobile home park say they’ve incurred thousands of dollars in property damages and untold headaches in the relocation of their homes.

The association says state and federal governments need to halt further buyout grants to Minot and investigate existing spending.

The city is compensating homeowners for the cost of relocating the homes. City Finance Director Cindy Hemphill says any damages incurred in the process are the responsibility of the contractor, not the city.

Flood protection planning and work in Minot has been ongoing since the June 2011 Souris River flood, which caused $700 million in damage in the city.
