Valley City (CSi)  The Valley City Commission met in Special Session Wednesday afternoon at City Hall to review proposed settlement conditions from Scott Sandvik’s attorney and make recommendations to city staff.  All members were present. The attorney, Jennifer Braun, requested not to be present at the meeting.

In June this year Sandvik’s bar, My Bar, was found in violation of the city’s liquor ordinance, and the establishment was served a 30 day suspension.

An Administrative Hearing was set before the City for August 29, 2016.

Sandvik’s attorney requested the opportunity to present to  the City Commission prior to the hearing date, a proposal for a resolution.

At the City Commission meeting  on Wednesday, City Administrator Schelkoph said the attorney’s proposal included reducing the suspension from 30 days to two days.

City Attorney Myrhe said city officials have conferred relative to the settlement, which is being brought to the City Commission for direction for action.

Commissioner Pedersen said, a two day suspension was “light.”

Myhre said seeing the offense occurred past the one year period, from the prior offense, the case is considered a first time offense.

Commissioners discussed the number of days for the suspension this time.

Sandvik’s settlement stated that he will not be under the influence of alcohol, along with his employees while on duty at the bar.   Myhre said that had occurred in the past.

The City Commission on Wednesday reached a consensus, to suspend the license for 12 days, at one day per month, over a period of 12 months, and inform Valley City Police on the days when the suspension is being served.  Also for Sandvik not to consume alcohol.  In addition the agreement calls for Sandvik to have a chemical dependency evaluation and follow through on the recommendation.while on duty at the bar.

The City Commission passed a motion relative to the consensus of the Commissioners.

Myhre said he will contact Ms. Braun with the city’s “last best offer.”

Sandvik is a candidate in the September 15, 2016, Mayoral race, along with Dave Carlsrud and Janice Clark Klein.

The meeting was shown live on CSi Cable 68.

In 2015 Dave and Dr. Mandy Sorlie created the Advocating for Neonatal Grief and Early Loss Support (ANGELS) fund. The fund was created to help defer the financial burden for families who have experienced the loss of an infant at JRMC.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the ANGELS fund, with a variety of ways to give which include;  Donating a silent auction item or bottle of wine,  becoming a sponsor, making a tax deductible gift directly to the fund,  bringing a team to golf or attending the luncheon only.

The CDC reports that over 23,000 fetal losses occurred in the United States in 2014. This type of loss is a sad reality for some families, and can have a devastating effect on the family.

Dr. Mandy Sorlie, says, “As a family physician I have witnessed the pain and felt the heartbreak that families experience during the loss of an infant. My husband and I could not imagine being faced with a financial burden at the same time.  My goal in creating this fund was to help families with the financial burden so they can focus on grieving their loss.”

ATLANTA (AP) — Kyle Gibson pitched his first nine-inning complete game and the Minnesota Twins overcame two hits from hyped prospect Dansby Swanson in his big league debut to beat the Atlanta Braves 10-3 on Wednesday night.

Juan Centeno drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth, and Minnesota swept the two-game series of the major leagues’ two worst teams.

The Braves showed why they’re five games worse than the Twins, dropping to 18-41 at home despite Swanson’s strong debut in his hometown.

Gibson (5-7) began the night with a 7.98 ERA in three starts this month, but he had little trouble dominating the majors’ weakest offense.

Eric O’Flaherty (1-4) gave up three runs over one inning for Atlanta.

The game followed a bronze medal match in which Americans Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross beat Brazil’s other women’s team, Larissa and Talita.

The hosts still have a chance for a gold medal when Alison and Bruno play Italy in the men’s championship on Thursday.

Twenty-five gold medals are waiting to be won at the Rio Olympics today, with the marque event featuring Usain Bolt in his favorite race, the 200 meter sprint.

The Jamaican superstar is aiming for his 8th gold medal.

Other top track events include the women’s 800 meters and 400 meter hurdles and the men’s 400 meter hurdles, the decathlon and shot put.

Four golds each are being awarded in sailing and canoe sprint and Chinese divers are expected to go 1-2 in the women’s 10-meter platform. Belgium also takes on Argentina in the men’s field hockey final.

In semifinals, the U.S. women face Serbia in volleyball and France in basketball.
