Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — A Great Lakes Airline’s representative, in Jamestown Wednesday (Jan 30, 2013) said, her visit is informational, while taking back suggestions and concerns of the Jamestown area flying public.
Monica Taylor-Lee said, her visit in Jamestown was two-fold, to visit with Jamestown residents, and to gather input, and to honor the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce, “Outstanding Citizen of the Year,” Fran Romsdahl, at the annual banquet, Thursday evening (Jan 31, 2013.)
Great Lakes management, from Cheyenne, Wyoming will also attend the banquet, and offer ticket giveaways.
She added that Great Lakes Airlines wants the public to know that they are part of the Jamestown community, as shown with the Food Drive in September of 2012, in conjunction with Jamestown Regional Airport.
Ms Taylor-Lee pointed out that booking flights departing Jamestown has become more convenient through travel agents, in addition to Great Lakes having ticket agreements with other airlines, where a single ticket will allow the passenger to reach their final destination along with their luggage, without the need for additional ticketing.
She added that Great Lakes Airlines continues to work out arrangements with Delta to re-implement the Sky Miles program, which she hopes will happen soon.
She added that the airline’s web site www.flygreatlakes.com is also available to book flights, along with on line booking engines.
Jamestown Regional Airport Manager, Matthew Leitner said, the local airport web site www.flyjamestown.net is also handy to obtain more information and to aid in booking flights, and has the present Jamestown schedule posted.
Leitner pointed out that Jamestown boardings are again going up, as he expects the January final numbers to be over 200.
He added that weather concerns not withstanding, Great Lakes on-time performance is 85% within 5-10 minutes of departure.
Ms Taylor-Lee added that when Jamestown boardings show a continued significant increase, Great Lakes will likely look at servicing Jamestown with the larger 30-seat aircraft.
Leitner said the present aircraft the 19 seat Beachcraft has the latest state of the art equipment and the planes are relatively new.
The full interview with Ms. Taylor-Lee and Leitner can be heard on the Thursday (Jan 31, 2013) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2 at 8:25 a.m., with replays at noon, 5-p.m., 6:25-p.m., and 10-p.m.

BUCYRUS, N.D. (AP) – A benefit fund that raised $180,000 has been awarded to residents of a North Dakota town that was devastated by wildfire.
Dakota Plains Federal Credit Union set up the fund for victims of the October blaze that swept through Bucyrus (boo-CY’-ruhs), located near the North and South Dakota border. The fire destroyed four homes in the town of 27 people.
The fund included a grant of $40,000 from Lutheran Social Services disaster relief.
Bonnie Lueck, manager of the credit union, says the money can’t replace everything, but it will residents “get back on their feet.”
The fire covered more than 9 square miles and destroyed 24 structures.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Authorities in Burleigh County seized 38 horses from a man on the same day officials in neighboring Morton County took 119 horses away from him.
Ninety-six dead horses were discovered on the Morton County property and three dead horses were found on the Burleigh County land. The horses that survived the alleged neglect are being fed and cared for onsite, except for 25 that are in bad shape and being cared for by a horse rescue organization.
The owner of the horses has not been identified because he has not been arrested. Prosecutors are considering charges.
GRAFTON, N.D. (AP) – A former stockbroker in Grafton and Grand Forks is likely to be sentenced to prison in March after failing to come up with $2.1 million in restitution by the court-ordered deadline of Tuesday.
Fifty-nine-year-old Ross Haugen pleaded guilty earlier this month to felony charges for scamming six clients. He was given the chance to avoid prison time by repaying those he swindled but he failed to do so. He now faces up to 70 years in prison when he is sentenced March 13.
Haugen faced similar charges in November 2011, pleaded guilty and avoided prison time by paying about $185,000 in restitution.
Haugen lost both his federal and state securities licenses nearly a decade ago.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – Two companies fined more than half a million dollars by the state for improperly dumping sewage in the western North Dakota oil patch have reached an agreement with federal prosecutors on more fines.
Fairview, Mont.-based Hurley Enterprises and Stanley-based MonDak Water and Septic Service each have agreed to pay $50,000 in fines to resolve federal charges of illegally disposing of domestic sewage.
The companies’ attorney, Thomas Kelly, says they decided to “take the high road” and settle the case. As part of the settlements with the state that were announced earlier, Hurley is developing a training program for septic waste haulers and MonDak is developing wastewater treatment lagoons.
Hurley spokesman Dave Gorham says no one was prepared for the rapid growth of sewage volume in the booming oil patch.
MINOT, N.D. (AP) – Prosecution witnesses in the trial of a Somali man accused of murdering four people in Minot have testified that all four victims died of gunshot wounds, and the bullets recovered at the crime scenes came from the same gun.
No weapon was recovered, and no one has testified that Omar Mohamed Kalmio had access to a gun.
The 28-year-old Kalmio is on trial in the Jan. 28, 2011, deaths of 19-year-old Sabrina Zephier, who was the mother of his child, and her mother, brother and mother’s boyfriend. Their bodies were found the same day in another home.
Kalmio is a Somali national who says he is in the U.S. under political asylum. Authorities say he was working in the western North Dakota oil patch at the time of the killings.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota House committee is considering a bill that would ban abortions in the state if a fetal heartbeat is detected.
Medical experts say a so-called fetal tone can be detected as early as five or six weeks into pregnancy. Abortion rights advocates say the measure would ban abortion before some women know they are pregnant.
Several Republican lawmakers from the House and Senate have introduced bills this session that would impose more stringent restrictions on abortions in North Dakota. Measures include defining a “person” as a fertilized human egg, and requiring a doctor performing abortions to be an OB-GYN with hospital admitting privileges.
Abortion rights advocates say the proposed measures are aimed at shuttering the state’s only abortion clinic in Fargo.

WASHINGTON (AP) – The first congressional hearing on gun control since the Connecticut school shooting massacre has included a dramatic appeal for tougher gun laws from wounded former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Under questioning, LaPierre also conceded that his organization no longer supports universal background checks for gun purchasers.
SANTA MARIA, Brazil (AP) – A lawyer representing the owner of the nightclub in southern Brazil where 235 people died in a fire last weekend says his client “regrets it very much” but insisted he was only partly to blame. He says the owner “trusted too much in the inspectors” and those who built the club. Police say the early Sunday blaze appears to have started when a band lit flares, which ignited inflammable foam on the ceiling. Police also say the fire extinguisher was faulty and the club had no sprinklers and no emergency exit.
ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. (AP) – Authorities say a storm that slammed a Georgia town has killed at least one person. The massive storm system also has been blamed for the death of a man in Tennessee. Cars were overturned on Interstate 75, forcing officials to close the highway in both directions. Thousands are without electricity across the Southeast.
HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Jerry Sandusky isn’t getting the new trial he asked for. He had argued that his lawyers weren’t given enough time to prepare for the proceeding that ended with a 45-count guilty verdict. A judge Wednesday issued an order that said Sandusky’s lawyers conceded that they’ve turned up no material since the trial that would have changed their strategy. The former Penn State assistant football coach is serving a 30- to 60-year state prison sentence for sexual abuse of 10 boys. He’s maintained his innocence and vowed to appeal.
