Bismarck (CSi) The ND Democratic – NPL on Saturday elected new
officers to lead the party for the next two years. Grassroots Dem-NPL
supporters reelected Kylie Oversen as Party Chairwoman on the first ballot
with 60 out of 110 total votes. Oversen was one of five candidates for
party Chair.
Also elected were Warren Larson as Vice Chair; Ruth Buffalo as Secretary;
and Colleen Popelka as Treasurer.
Dem-NPL Chairwoman Kylie Oversen* released the following statement:
“The amazing participation at today’s meeting is a clear sign that we, the
Democratic-Nonpartisan League, are fired up and committed to fighting for
the issues that matter to working families and citizens across our state.
“There’s no question that the results of last year’s election were not
what we hoped for, either here in North Dakota or at the national level.
But what we’ve seen since then is remarkable energy, renewed dedication,
and countless grassroots supporters – many getting involved for the first
time in their lives – hard at work organizing to build a stronger future.
“I don’t know if we’ve ever seen this many people involved in elections
for our party leadership positions. We strongly believe the engagement and
activism we’ve seen since last November is a sign of things to come in 2018
and beyond.”
U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp also addressed the reorganizational meeting,
speaking to supporters about ensuring quality, affordable health care for
all North Dakotans, protecting seniors and children, and building stronger
and safer communities.
“The North Dakota Dem-NPL Party stands up for workers and families across
our state and I’m proud of the leadership we elected today to help move
those priorities forward,” said Senator Heitkamp.
Over 200 Democrats from across the state were in attendance at the party’s
reorganizational meeting, with 110 members of the Policy Committee
participating in the vote for leadership positions. The Dem-NPL Policy
Committee is made up of two members from each of the state’s 47 legislative
districts, as well as members of the Dem-NPL Executive Committee. More
