Bismarck  (CSi)   Through Thursday this week, North Dakota Highway Patrol troopers and civilian inspectors are participating in a nationwide commercial motor vehicle enforcement and educational program. Roadcheck is a 72-hour period of large truck and bus safety inspections. This year’s emphasis is cargo securement.

Inspectors will primarily conduct the North American Standard Level I Inspection, a 37-step procedure including an examination of both driver operating requirements and vehicle mechanical fitness. Drivers must provide items such as a driver’s license, hours-of-service documentation, motor carrier registration, and shipping documentation. Inspectors will also monitor seat belt usage and the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

CVSA is an international not-for-profit organization of motor carrier safety officials from the United States, Canada, and Mexico. CVSA’s mission is to promote commercial motor vehicle safety and security by providing leadership to enforcement, industry, and policy makers.
