Jamestown (CSi)  Interstate Engineering along with Border States Paving, and Jamestown City officials Wednesday gave an update on the 5th Street Northeast street construction project, between 12th Avenue and 27th Avenue, Northeast.

Luke Wiese with Borders State said the recent rain on Wednesday has slightly slowed progress on Phase One of the project that goes to 17th Avenue. On Wednesday crews were pumping water.  He said it may be another day or two before the mud dries to allow progress to continue.

Earlier this week, on Monday the fabric and gravel were installed on this phase.

Concrete has been ordered for curbs with installation to possibly start on Monday next week, and take about 2-3 days to complete.

The valley gutters will then be installed, along with inlet and manhole work, followed by paving lifts.

He said Phase One also includes the installation of sidewalks and striping.

The street leads to the new Two Rivers Activity Center (TRAC) set to open in mid August this year.

He added that after the 4th of July Phase Two will start, in the area past Eastwood Drive, anticipated around July 8th.

The Phase Two completion date of the project is September  15, 2017, and Phase III & IV of the project October 15, 2017.

He said that access to properties along the construction route will be maintained, with traffic rerouted as the concrete paving is installed and cured.

Affected residents will be notified of the work schedule.

Also on hand at the meeting were Travis Dillman, Steve Thompson and Ben Aaseth from Interstate Engineering, and Street Foreman Harold Sad along with Justin Liebig from the City Street Department.

The City of Jamestown received a 2018 grant award of $276,953 from the NDDOT Transportation Alternatives Program.

City Administrator Jeff Fuchs says the grant will allow construction of additional sidewalks on 12th Ave NE,  from 5th St NE to 13th St NE, then east on the Airport Road to the JHS entrance and south to the High School. It also includes sidewalk between the High School and TRAC as well as funding from TRAC east to Eastwood Drive.
