WASHINGTON (AP) — Wed Oct 4, 2017 President Donald Trump says he met “some of the most amazing people” during a visit to a hospital where victims of the mass shooting in Las Vegas are being treated.
And he says he’s invited some of those survivors to the White House.
Trump met privately with people injured in Sunday’s shooting, which killed dozens and injured hundreds at a local concert. He also met with family members and hospital staff.
He says he wants to “congratulate everybody” at the hospital and says it’s “incredible” what doctors have done.
He adds: “It makes you very proud to be an American when you see the job that they’ve done.”
Trump was speaking in the lobby of the University Medical Center.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A law enforcement official has told The Associated Press that the Las Vegas shooter’s girlfriend is being questioned by FBI agents in Los Angeles.
The official says Marilou Danley was being questioned Wednesday morning at the FBI’s field office in Los Angeles and had an attorney with her.
Investigators have hoped she could shed light on what drove her boyfriend, Stephen Paddock, to fatally shoot 59 people at a country music concert from his sniper’s perch in a 32nd floor hotel suite.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation publicly.
A receptionist at the office of Los Angeles-based criminal defense attorney Matthew Lombard confirmed he was representing Danley but declined further comment.
Danley returned to the U.S. Tuesday night from the Philippines after a trip abroad that lasted weeks.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — The rapid-fire shooting that killed or injured hundreds of concertgoers in Las Vegas has highlighted the easy availability of ammunition magazines that allow shooters to fire dozens of shots without having to reload.
Gun-control advocates say magazines that can store and feed 30, 50 or even 100 bullets into firearms increase the potential carnage of an attack.
It’s believed that millions of such accessories are legally owned in the U.S. — prized by gun enthusiasts for recreational shooting and self-defense.
The U.S. Supreme Court is considering whether to take a case that revolves around the issue and asks if the Second Amendment gives people a right to possess the high-capacity ammunition magazines.
So far, eight states have passed laws restricting magazine capacity to 10 or 15 bullets.
